|
|
Hi,
I have downloaded the following onto my Computer:
1. POI's
2. UK Speed Cams (Speed Zoned, with MPG Voice)
3. EUR Speed Cams (Speed Zoned, with MPG Voice)
All three files have been put into a single folder ("POIs to Sat Nav)
However, I understand that there will be a problem when uploading, due to the selection of MPH or KPH during the upload process (i.e. if I select KPH for Europe then it will be wrong for UK).
Can someone please explain (preferably in step-by step Numpty Idiot Language = Me) the correct process please, as I understand that re-naming of files is required. I've seen this thread:
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=57496&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=60
- but am still unsure how to do it
(I'm also sometimes confused when reference to POIs is made - does this also include speed cams, or purely supermarkets, petrol etc.?)
Many thanks
Brian
ps The Device is a Nuvi 2495LM |

Rather than incorporating the whole thing into one process from the same Windows folder you need to do the UK ones as feet/mph as one process first.
Then, do the EU ones as a separate process, from a separate Windows root folder using a different POIloader filename and the kph option.
The end result will be 2 .GPI files in the Garmin POI folder.
The important bit is to remove the sub folders so nothing gets dragged in by POIloader. _________________ DashCam:

POIs can be anything you want to be, some come as part of the map and some are custom POIs that you install. Speed cameras are just another set of Custom POIs.
What you need to do is first download the UK ones and use POI Loader with it set to mph. Create your first POI file and save it. Now download the EU ones and this time set POI loader to kph. Save this POI file with a different name. Both files should be placed in the POI folder on your nuvi. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Still struggling
I believe (rightly or wrongly?) that the POI's (petrol stations etc.) need to be loaded up at the same time as the speed cam database.
But when I tried this the POI Loader wouldn't play - it gave a warning about too many files in the folder. So I loaded up the UK Speed Cam File separately, however there's no sign of it when looking at the Garmin Nuvi (F Folder via My Computer; I've checked the POI Folder and no sign.
However, when I tried loading the UK database file again the POI Loader gave me a warning that the file already exists?

UPDATE:
The POI Folder on the Garmin is now showing the following:
pgpsw-speed-cams-Z6TZg-(14-082).gpi
pgpsw-speed-cams-lZi0Y-(14-082).gpi
POIs.gpi
(i.e. EUR speed cams, UK speed cams and POI's)
- I have now re-named the two speed cams files, such that the Garmin POI Folder now contains (along with other files that were already there) the following:
UKpoi.gpi
EURpoi.gpi
POIs.gpi
- The two speed cams files were uploaded via POI Loader using the relevant Feet/MPH or Metres/KPH settings, as appropriate.
Is this correct please, or have I screwed up?
UPDATE 2:
The Sat Nav "Custom POIs" selection does appear to show the relevant data, namely UK and EUR speed cam types, as well as POIs.
Many thanks

On the face of it it looks OK but not being able to look over your shoulder makes a definate answer impossible.
What you could have done in POILoader is renamed those default filenames to UK and EU so you know which is which. _________________ DashCam:

Thanks for the reply.
I tried my Sat Nav on the way to work but unfortunately it didn't warn me of a known camera location (I did get a warning which I believe to be a standard Garmin warning, and not a pgpsw warning).
Definitely no Speed Zoned warning, nor the voice warning either
Any ideas please?

Yes.
Try installing one thing at a time until you are confident how to do it. I would suggest UK speed cams to start with.
Turn off Garmin's speed cameras, then you won't be confused by them or get warnings that you are not sure where they are coming from.
Run a simulated route past a camera known to be in the PGPSW database to check if its icon is visible on the map and it generates a visual 'banner' warning and an audible warning. This saves driving around looking for one.
And what do you mean exactly by 'Speed Zoned warnings'? |

To avoid any confusion I'd start with a blank sheet, so remove all .gpi files from the POI folder and just install in there the UK ones. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

I can't recall, and I've never hit that problem, I tend to install separate POI files rather than try and combine everything into one, as it makes editing easier. K will know though _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Sorry, missed this earlier. You can load everything together but see my post above. I'd certainly suggest while you're troubleshooting you don't try to combine any poi files, just stick with the UK speed cameras for now. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

It's something to do with not more than 32 files in a sub-folder or something like that. So as far as I can remember, if you have more than 32 POIs in a folder (no problem) but within that folder a sub-folder with more than 32 files, POI Loader complains. |

Been out for the day, sorry I didn't ask your permission
32 files are OK in the root folder but not in sub folders. My guess is that this is going to be a tad complicated.
Create a new folder, say C:\PGPSWUK\ and put the UK download in there. Then create another folder C:\PGPSWEU\ and put the EU download in there.
Then create a third folder C:\PGPSWPOI\ and put your petrol stations in there.
That keeps all the folders consecutive in Windows.
Then using POILoader you will need to perform 3 separate operations to get 3 separate .GPI files into the Garmin POI folder.
But, before you do any of the above, run POILoader and use the option to remove all existing data first. _________________ DashCam:
