Turned On 07/04/2006
Expired 08/08/2016
My trusty Go 520 has finally come up with a problem. No power is getting to the device when plugged in (computer does not recognise it either) so there must be a problem with the USB connector.
I had a quick peek inside but even if my soldering skills were better than they are the surface mount socket would be beyond my crude iron.
I have had a thought of hardwiring an extension of some sort to it but again I think this may just be desperation not to lose one of the best TT devices there was
For now I am resorting to my wife's (very dusty) XL Live (Western Europe) which is quite out of date but looking at the update prices I was offered by TT for Maps and services I will make do.
RIP Katie, you will be missed
Edit. Not sure of the turn on date now, I though I joined this forum just after I got it but now not so sure _________________ https://share.octopus.energy/dense-raven-261 |

Did you try the reset button on the bottom of the device? Don't preclude the option of just replacing the battery? And, are you using the cable that came with the device? _________________ David |

Hi dhn
I have tried 3 different cables, the original 520 one, a genuine TT XL live and the one that came with my dashcam.
There is no power getting to the device as the LED indicator does not light up
Thanks for the suggestions though
I did think of just soldering a socket onto the 5v pins on the motherboard and placing the maps etc on a SD card to update in that way. That would depend on the socket being at fault.
Will maps/app on an sd card update if it is in a reader or does it have to be in the TT to be read?
There are a number of 520s on ebay and I know the maps are locked to a particular device but can I use a backup previously made from my 520 on a second hand one or are there device specific files or settings.
I still would like an x20 as having seen all the experiences of later devices they are the ones that best suit my requirements (although my wife's XL is doing the job just now) _________________ https://share.octopus.energy/dense-raven-261 |

What you do is get a 'new' 520, connect to computer and TT Home and register it with the account details of the existing 520. Updating should show maps available. _________________ Dennis

I do not believe a backup from device A will work on device B -- even if both devices are of the same model. _________________ David |

I'm not talking of backups, I mean maps which have been bought and are available for download (have already been downloaded). It certainly used to be the case that when you registered a 'new' device using the same account email and password as you already were using, the new device would take on the characteristics of the old one - probably only successfully if they were the same model. I know I did it once with a GO700 years ago.
Can't harm to try - if it doesn't work, he only has to buy a more up to date map for the ebay 520. _________________ Dennis

I was able to get the last map that was on my old TT Go520 after speaking to customer services, but this map was going onto another 520. |

Sorry for the lack of responses from me on this thread.
I have still not replaced the 520 (making do with the XL Live) but still reading the discussion for when the time comes
Regards
