Via 130 playing up

Hi guys
I am in Spain and have my tomtom via 130 Western Europe running app 12.071 and it has up to date mapping.
Every couple of minutes it switches from showing the map I'm driving on back to the main menu screen.
The sound instructions continue as normal and if I touch the 'done' button the map navigation screen returns, but only for a minute or two until I press the the 'done' button and so it keeps happening.
I have tried holding down the power button until I get the drum roll but it has not helped.
Any ideas or is it about to go completely kaput on me? It's 3 years old but only used when on hols so very little usage at all.

Haven't seen anyone complaining about this sort of behaviour recently, but the advice used to be that dirt trapped between the bezel and the screen might be the cause. Running the corner of a stiffish piece of paper all the way round between the two often cured it.

as i'm back in the UK i can now add an update to this.
Many thanks to Anita. this method seemed to do the trick. although i didnt see any offending dirt particles come out from under the screen, after running a thin business card a couple of times under the bezel, the satnav never played up again, so once again, many thanks for the advice

I must admit I had my doubts, especially as you said the verbal instructions continued, but thought, in the absence of any other ideas, it was worth a try.
