I think you'll find they can only be set off by vehicles on the 'camera' side of the road. |
Completely incorrect.
As a professional driver who is very aware of speed cameras and local mobile hotspots, we regularly ignore and trigger the local gatso cameras at night when driving towards them, i.e not on the camera side of the road. |

what amazes me is that, once he challenged it, surely the police and CPS would have re-examined the evidence - why didn't they realise their error at that point and admit a mistake had been made, rather than waste (our) money continuing the prosecution/appeal. |

As a cop and former Road Policing Officer, I can confirm that Gatso cameras can be triggered by vehicles heading towards them. They flash as a deterrent but will not actually take a picture. Therefore a car heading innocently away from the camera will not receive a fine just because an idiot is travelling towards the camera well in excess of the limit, just so they can make the camera flash. I could go on with another little nugget, but I'm still serving, so won't for now. Gatsos are a dying breed now as they get replaced slowly by digital Monitrons etc. _________________ Tommo...

I can't wait for that 'nugget'.
As for retirement, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. No more refusing to go out because you are working tomorrow; the big problem that I have is simply not enough time for everything.
My favorite saying is "There are only 52 Sundays in a year".
