And in the meantime, my stupid Renault TomTom thing still has only map 9.55. _________________ Dennis

How come? How do you update those anyway, do you need to download the map to a USB stick and plug that into the car? |

You "simply" log into the Renault store and buy the new map - £55 for UK&ROI (no options to get map update service, £55 for every new map). Then get SD card out of built in thing an shove it into computer where their program automatically downloads and installs it. The latest map was 9.55 back in November. Although it's TT map and TT navigation system, it is not supported by TT, only by Renault, who don't seem to know how it works and how to get it moving.
Oh, by the way, every time I've bought a new map, their download system rubbishes my SD card and I have to spend a long time restoring a backup copy - it's not simple like earlier TT SD cards, because content is proprietary, not readable.
PS - the built in thing was an option priced at over £800! _________________ Dennis

Can you add third party POIs to it? I'm supposed to be getting a Renault company car or van in the next few months with built in satnav. |

You can create your own but not import any. You can only do that sitting in the vehicle with ignition on. Feels great sitting there like some idiot geek! _________________ Dennis

Update. After 5 days of failed connections, software update and map downloads, all is working again. TomTom Support did well in keeping in contact with me and finally got things downloading. Not sure exactly if it was three resets (Drum Rolls) or the next step where I pressed the Off button three times after the drum roll. I also located the Cache on my iMac and deleted it from there using Finder/Go/Go to Folder. Whatever happened its working 100%.... |
