I believe that TomTom is releasing the new TomTom Go Mobile iOS app.
Has anybody here used it yet? If so, how does it compare to the old iOS app? Does it allow the use of third party POIs partially, fully, or not at all?
The first country to have the new TomTom Go Mobile iOS app is unsurprisingly the Netherlands. Here is a translated review.

Received the update to the old TomTom App this morning and message saying it is being discontinued - but new Go version not in App Store yet for UK - should be within the next few hours I would guess
Used on Android and much prefer it to the (very) old TomTom app
No use for PGPSW camera POIs as far as I could tell _________________ TomTom Go Live 6100, 600

This morning, I also found that both my TomTom UK & Ireland and TomTom Europe apps had new versions, both updating from version 1.22.1 to version 1.22.2.

This app will continue to work and you will keep getting app and map updates, but we think that you'll find our new GO Mobile app even better. It's our most advanced navigation app ever! Why not give it a try? Please make sure you have the latest version of this app installed and follow the instructions inside to receive a free upgrade to GO Mobile.
I'll update both TomTom UK & Ireland and TomTom Europe apps to version 1.22.2 - however I'll only convert the TomTom Europe app to GO Mobile. This will give me a chance to compare the two apps
Whilst the screen looks good, until I try it the new app, I won't know if there's any loss of functionality or features - being a long time user of TomTom I tend to be wary of new TomTom products.

Depends what you are looking for from your nav app - the screen as you say looks great and runs more fluid, plus the traffic (presentation and view) is much clearer (my main use), but if it's custom POIs then it's maybe not for you
Even after an upgrade you can continue to use the old app _________________ TomTom Go Live 6100, 600

iMazing says the Documents folder is read-only, so there seems no way of adding POIs (which of course includes pgpsw speed cams). WHY?! A backwards step, not long after they finally fixed the problem in the old app.

Unfortunately, my "sources" tell me the new TT GO Mobile app is not going to have files sharing activated like the old app, it is more likely to be linked to mydrive where you will be able to upload you own pois, which I assume will transfer over when you "sync" the new app to mydrive. This feature hasn't been activated yet as far as I know.
At the moment I have not upgraded, although once you upgrade and get your 3 years free subscription you can download any maps to the device, the maps are not individually priced and the subscription now includes traffic and speed cameras that are regularly updated, TomTom's regular is not the same as PGPSW's regular though

What are the differences, if any, between the old iOS app and the new TT Go Mobile please?
If I upgrade and don't like it, can I revert to the original? The way that I read the description in the app store is that the old app will carry on working, unless you upgrade, when it will become a new app. Am I wrong about this? _________________ TT Go 720 (T)

I bought TT Mobile for iOS just after Christmas - I bought Europe, expecting it to have the only thing I wanted, namely Greece. It didn't, so waste of money and I've had a little look at it, but haven't used it in anger as I already have three other TT devices running alongside each other in my van.
This week I accepted an upgrade to it, and was then also offered the free new GO mobile, which I accepted. It took ages to download and install.
The new version is a complete new App and installs alongside the old app, so you will have TomTom Europe (or whatever) and TomTom GO as two apps on the iPhone. You can run either of them.
Looking at the TomTom Forum, I see lots of complaints about the new app - roughly two problems... First, it's apparently very big and could have problems installing on a 16GB iPhone. Second, it has loads of features missing. The usual TT apologists on that forum are saying the usual thing - the missing features will come along later, just like all the latest models seem to be these days from TomTom - some people accuse them of releasing an Alpha Beta thing. I think it may not be compatible with iPad.
I may get round to giving it a try some day, but as far as I can tell, the only "good" thing about the new version when offered FREE to existing users, is it has free subscription (Traffic and whoopee cameras!) for three years and you can freely download any map you like so long as you have enough space on your phone. Some people are complaining that free subscription for 3 years obviously means it will need subscription after that time. _________________ Dennis

Hi Dennis, I have become very wary of TomTom updates/upgrades now. Now that I know that the two will be separate on my iPhone, I'll give it a try.
I've also resurrected an old copy of Co-Pilot, which I'm going to try again.
It seems that all the software companies are starting to go for "cloud" apps where, for an annual fee you can keep using them, Microsoft Office being a prime example.
I suppose that the TomTom subscription of £35 for 3 years isn't too bad as long as they don't degrade the quality. _________________ TT Go 720 (T)

I downloaded and tried the Go app and found when connected to bluetooth car radio the voice instructions are muted like the old app.
On the old app you could touch the instructions bar and on the right opt for instructions through the iPhone speaker, not so on the Go app.
I have asked TomTom for a solution and after a mere four days they suggested that I switch off bluetooth and kindly gave me detailed instructions of how to do this.
I have pointed out that the idea of the bluetooth is so that calls can be received legally and switching it off may not be the best idea, other apps, for example Navigon works perfectly well through the bluetooth radio system.
I"m not expecting much from TomTom support but if anyone knows a way of getting the app to give voice instructions either through the phone speaker or bluetooth that would be great.
Also mentioned to them that own POI's cannot be added, but as said this happens with TomTom after updates so nothing new.
On the plus side I do like the visual layout

I've given it a couple of goes and I have not yet found a single thing of merit in it.
The absolute deal breaker for me is that it won't do Bluetooth audio through my radio speakers. Somebody on the TT forum said it would work if you start the App before switching on the ignition. It doesn't, well, not for me.
TBH there is so much wrong with it for me that I shall keep it only because it's free for three years, but I don't expect to use it again until I have Vera holding it in her hand in our hired jeep on holiday in Greece. _________________ Dennis

I have been using TomTom, since I bought the original Go in 2004 for £499.99. In that time, it has gradually got worse and worse.
I've taken the new iOS Mobile app out a couple of times now and must say that I am completely underwhelmed by it!
The screen view is quite pleasant to look at and it shows all the information that I need quite clearly. That's the good bit....
I find it quite faffy to set up and use. What has really capped it off for me today was when we went out to another town about 20 miles away, so far so good. We got to town and I switched the app off. We went shopping and all the other typical Saturday afternoon stuff. We got back to the car and I switched on my trusty app, chose "My Places", then selected "Home", ready to zoom off into the sunset.
TT then asks me to supply an address or co-ordinates for Home. I do not want to sit in a car park setting up a crappy app that was already set up yesterday, so I switched to the old app to get us home.
After we got home, I thought that I must have messed up the initial set up, so I chose home again and this time, I got the steering wheel icon, showing that it is ready to drive me home! It knew my home location all the time, so why did it not work two hours earlier?
I can use it with bluetooth on my car radio, but noticed that the first couple of words are always missing when giving directions.
As Dennis has said, I'll keep it because it is free, but they will need to do some serious enhancements / repairs before I will be persuaded to part with any money for it. _________________ TT Go 720 (T)
