Have just tried to DL some of the free POI's here on this website in the Garmin .csv format to update my recently acquired 2699, and they are all coming down without any descriptions and/or locations just a load of Tel No's and in certain cases a load of 'mumbo jumbo'. All the Lat/Long numbers appear to be there Ok....... whilst accepting I haven't a clue where each location actually is. Its just the locations and names etc., that are completely missing.
I have noticed this previously but have converted a few from the TT ov2 format over to the Garmin .csv format by using the excellent POI Editor as all of the DL'ed TT .ov2 formats are coming down spot on. Everything in there.
Anyone else had or is having this problem, or is it just me?
The truth is that its any/all of them regardless. To prove the point this morning I did DL the first 5 in the ATM section....... that's the A's and the B's, in .ov2 TT format and they were fine. Places names Lat/Long etc etc. All great exactly as they should be. Did the same in the Garmin .csv format......... again the first 5 in ATM section, and its just a mess in there. That applies to each of the 5 ATM's downloaded.
I don't require these particular ATM's but just wanted to prove a point. The way I am currently doing the conversion (which is EXTREMELY laborious) is to DL in TT format and convert each POI over by using POI Editor. So if I have 30 POI's from here then that means 30 .ov2/.csv conversions with the Editor. Just cant believe that its just me. I mean all you do is press the DL button in the relevant format don't you really?
Who makes up these POI lists? Do you think they should be made aware? Do they read these posts or can they be contacted? Definably something wrong with the .csv section of Dl's.
Well wish I knew. I mean all you do is press the DL button and you get a downloaded .zip file. How can it be wrong here? What about all the online stuff that I DL. Nothing wrong with any of that!
Whether the POI is in or out of the .zip file, POI Edit will open it. Either way in the .zip file or out it remains the same......... just Tel No's, blank spaces and so on. TT format is perfect.
This Garmin Sat Nav changeover from TT is proving to be a load of work and that's a fact,

Well I'm not seeing what you're seeing so something is wrong somewhere. Are you able to post a screenshot so we can see what you're talking about? _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way.

Combining sub-categories also works as expected:

-5.48132,50.21206,"Barclays ATM, St Ives, Bedford St",""
-5.42149,50.18392,"Barclays ATM, Hayle, Foundry Sq",""
[list=]Penzance, Market Jew St -5.53569 50.11931

The above is what I get in the TT .ov2 format. Its perfect
This lot is the same Banks (see Lat/Long detail) but in the downloaded Garmin .csv format. No location, name.... nothing. All these Lat/Long being on the extreme right of POI Edit program. All the rest is blank. Some POI's are nothing but jumbled up nonsense. On all .csv POI DL's however the Lat/Long stuff is always there.
I am using POI Edit to open and close the POI's and POI Editor to do the .ov2 to .csv conversion. When it does the conversion it comes out exactly the same in the .csv format as the original which was in the TT .ov2 format.
The above are only 8 examples are from the POI 'Barclays Bank'. Now you can understand my exasperation !
I have no ideal if this post will come out as I haven't done such text inclusions before. Hope it does

Have you tried actually just installing the POI files to the Garmin and taking our word for it that ten of thousands of downloads confirm that they work?
And, as Kremmen suggests, if you DO need to view the content, just open the file in Excel or a plain text editor like Notepad.
My thanks to all who have responded. It is much appreciated.
I think I shall just load some Garmin POI's into this new Garmin 2699 of mine. Some POI's which I know are local and just see whether they show up. Maybe increase the size of the attached .bmp so that I cannot fail to notice them. The ATM section would be an example, say Barclays and maybe HSBC. I know there are loads of those in and around Bristol.
Still cannot understand as to why the names and locations are not showing up in POI Edit but as 'MaFt' has suggested if they do show in my new Sat Nav then perhaps it shouldn't be a problem. We'll see.

Maybe you have POI Edit configured to be Tab delimited or some other delimiter other than comma. That would possibly cause truncation of the file.
The comma delimited files can be viewed in Excel, if you have it, or Notepad and can be edited in both.
POI Edit is for advanced manipulation and conversion which being as you have a Nuvi is not required. _________________ DashCam:
