Yes - you get a 'ding' on approach and a different 'ding' for the all clear. |

I agree that the 250m warning seems a little close. If my maths is right that's less than 9 seconds at 60mph or less than 8 seconds at 70mph.
The device obviously knows that SPECS are a different camera category as it works out average speed, but does it have a different ding for fixed vs mobile so the driver knows what to look out for?

Yes, it is now. They changed it after I suggested that 'edogdata.dat' wasn't very clear that it was the speed cams...!
Any ideas how to download the DAT file? Every time I click on the web link I get a web page full of random text.. |

|
|
I just bought an RAC 07S due to their £99 offer, but I'm wondering if I did the right thing for a couple of reasons.
The safety camera alert sound is barely audible, even set to the highest volume, and would be easily missed if distracted by something trivial such as trying to concentrate on driving! My car isn't particularly noisy whilst travelling but even without the radio on you would be forgiven for missing the little "bing" it produced. Is this normal for a unit of this supposed quality?
I'm also perplexed as to why the 07S model is supposedly £175 normally when it's seemingly of a lower specification than their RAC 05, which has higher definition recording, lane drift alerts and forward collision warning for only £150.
If any other users of these can shed light I'd appreciate it. |

Are you talking about speed limits or speed cameras? |

Speed Limits |
I also had a 70mph come up on screen when I was in a 50mph zone this happened to be (I think) because there was a dual carriageway alongside the road that I was on. |

Firstly, the speed limit 'markers' are put on the map by the map makers, not the satnav makers and the symptoms you are having are common. The satnav has to know that you have passed the marker before it can alert, thus the alert is usually a few tens of yards after the actual limit sign. Some brands have advanced warnings, but that can be a pain in the butt, getting two warnings for a speed limit change.
WRT incorrect speed limit alerts. Your explanation is a possibility. Again it's the map makers who have got it wrong and it usually takes a long time for them to correct them especially if no-one reports the error. Speed limits on satnavs are notoriously inaccurate, so don't be surprised if you come across a few more errors. |
