I recently revisited some of my old Active 10 map cards in my Active 12 unit. I was stunned to see that, although not as "sharp" as the HR mapping, I actually preferred the look of the standard resolution mapping on the Active 12 screen - I find that lines in the High Resolution mapping look very "jaggy" and diagonal lines often have sections missing, making them look discontinuous. By contrast, the softer, standard resolution mapping has a pleasing "smoothed" look about it which is much easier on the eye.
Opinions anyone? |

Judging from what I see on my 10 - when the map is zoomed from 100% display the unit does some anti-aliasing - the simple versions average pixels to trick eye into seeing smooth edges in a bitmap image, it maps images better on eye but softer especially if scaled up too much (i.e. zoomed in).
the issue you see with diagonals sounds typical of scaling down bitmap images (usually by something other than 50%) without doing any anti-aliasing - I can see this happen on my 10 then a second later it will finish calculating the anti-alias version and display that instead.
You might find as you zoom in/out further it changes display mode (it costs cpu time and thus power so thresholds may be set to conserve power)
I assume you have latest firmware - it might be worth emailing Satmap technical support about it _________________ J. |

Thanks Jimmy. I think it comes down to personal preference, and I prefer the smoother SR maps. It's a shame, as high resolution OS maps look great on my iPhone in the OS app, but for real-world, foul-weather use the Satmap beats an iPhone hands down. I just don't trust an iPhone to record a trackless all day and not run out of power part way through the day! |
