Am I the only one to find 'My Drive' a nightmare of uncertainty? |

I don't know if you're the only one, but I don't usually have any problems with it. _________________ Anita

Whenever I connect my 6000 I can never be sure that the download will take place without a struggle.
I know that I'm not very computer literate but the whole thing seems very 'Micky Mouse'. |

Well, I agree with you - I never know if anything will come of plugging in my 1005. Sometimes something, sometimes nothing - my main problem is I don't know what or when or if. And when it's finished, next thing it says is it has another update for me, then again, and again and again.
However, just to cheer you up a little, my Renault R-Link TomTom uses a very similar utility - it is so much worse than MyDrive Connect, honestly. _________________ Dennis

What a relief, I thought it was just me being 'thick'!
It is the uncertainty which is so frustrating.
This morning my unit updated effortlessly, but next time - who knows.
I wish they would sort it out, as well as fixing the matter of the third party pois - esp. yours! |

Maybe it's the different devices that are the cause of the different experiences. My Via 135 is an earlier generation of TomTom than yours, and is one of the last to accept third party POIs. _________________ Anita

So I have just updated my 1005. It wouldn't work at the first asking, then it offered three updates - GPSFix, Speed Cameras Europe and MapShare updates 1MB.
As soon as it finished (which took over 15 minutes), it allowed me to disconnect, then came up again and said 1 update available and that was MapShare corrections, 1MB.
Now, I can live with that sillyness, but for one sneaking suspicion - the GPS Fix is always there and you can't untick it. So is the MapShare always there? Or did the first MapShare actually download. Or what? _________________ Dennis

Yes, I was offered an update again this morning - this time it went through without fuss.
However, it was only a map update.
The site, as I remember, offers you 'view update', but then proceeds to do the update [or not do it!] as it feels.
If the updates were dated or identified in some other way, we could perhaps decide if they had been successful, or if we wanted them.
Certainly the GPSfix is not a routine offering for the 6000, though the offer for purchase of the camera data is always there.
I don't buy it 'cos a little knowledge is a dangerous thing . . . |

It's at it again this morning!
The taskbar notification icon indicates that an update is available, but plugging in the 6000 merely launches a hung 'My Drive' with an indicated 106 Kb map update available, but with the unit resolutely failing to 'connect'.
How frustrating is this!
Does it mean that in fact I already have the update?
Who knows?
. . . and after a while Mr Tomtom, fewer are going to care. |

I say again, however, think yourself lucky compared with my Renault R-Link TomTom. I managed to get the bluetooth handsfree working again by following their advice to do a factory reset (y'know, lose all your settings - language, units, Home, etc - it doesn't do my personal POIs of course). Their advice then went on to say connect SD card to computer and update it. So I did. And now I don't have a map any more. _________________ Dennis

And there was me , thinking I was hard done to . . .
I wonder how long it will be before they say, 'How could you possibly expect it to work with Windows XP.'
Hey ho, I shall have to start looking at reviews again. |

You mean you think there's a review which says it works with XP? Have you been away? _________________ Dennis

I know I'm obsolete, it is just a bit sad to realise that all my stuff is going, or has gone, the same way.
I fear that your avatar and I are as one. . . |

This morning a 229 kb map update went through successfully, though the process hung for several minutes between download and final installation.
The program fails to fill one with confidence. |
