No, categories can be up in the hundreds, I can't recall the exact number.

I have 3598 for 4 months now after I blew my Navigon. I spent a fair bit of time exploring options and use it hands free quite successfully. Interesting point about flying with the magnet but the cardboard box won't affect the price of fish.

One of the first things I did was reconfigure the Garmin to Navigon style.

In Navigon I used to have the time of arrival and distance to go displayed also the compass and altitude. I miss these from the main screen.

I have just updated the OS and got an unwanted improvement.

Before, when I first booted, it would display the warning screen and ask you to agree. Thereafter when you came out of standby it would boot straight to the map.

Now, with 4.70, it puts up the warning notice after booting and also on coming out of standby.

If it's the same as my 2 259x units you don't have to press to acknowledge that message as it auto disappears after driving a short distance anyway = no fingerprints on the glass.

Just wish Honda would do the same as you have to acknowledge their nag screen.

Have you now worked out how to display them as you can do so on your nuvi?

Part of the nanny state I'm afraid, it'll be so you can't sue Garmin as whatever you do you've been warned! Not really a big deal as Kremmen explains. I get more infuriated by being told by certain vendors that my coffee may be hot!!

sweet i know on tomtom they have a cap

I've put probably somewhere between 5000 and 10,000 geocache POIs onto me TT Go 910 no problem.
It's died now, and the no custom POI on modern TTs is a stupid shot in the foot IMO.

Custom POI is now available on the TT's - not sure if and when they will allow 3rd party camera database to be added

they may do as quite a few users are being disgruntled as after their released the poi update, they started selling the 5100 and 6100 which is the same unit as the 5000/6000 but now come with lifetime traffic, maps and speedcams

I've also noticed that the maps on Garmin have more detail on them - TomTom seem to remove key features (especially water) - found this out after driving along the A75 in Scotland and the Loch you drive past is not visible on the TT unit's but is on the Garmins. When queried this, was told they remove features from the map.

Quote:
We do indeed reduce the info on the map in order to keep the sizes small. Waters and very minor roads are often the first to be left out as they are not relevant for correct routing. You could report this with the MapShare Reporter but the chances are it won't be added to the maps.

I will say though if you have the chance to get a Garmin then go for it, the TT 5000 isn't that bad, but I still prefer the Garmin's overall (I was just put off by the problems I had)

I believe so, the 25x7/8/9 series do.

On the map view tap the 3bar icon bottom right, then select Trip data

If Trip data isn't showing go to Settings, Map and Vehicle, Map tools and check Trip data

You'll then have this slide out, tapping any of the 4 data fields on the right enable you to select from a variety of information. Note that route specific options will only show to be selected if you have a route selected.

Garmin have released firmware 5.10 as of 23rd July

Change History

Changes made from version 5.00 to 5.10:
◦Fixed an issue that could cause traffic events to obscure the navigation map.
