|
|
Hi,
I've just purchased a new 3598LMT Sat Nav and although it is recognised by my laptop when using Garmin Express (which I have used to update the maps and firmware) the device is not recognised in POI loader.
I get an error message saying that I may need to set the interface option on the GPS to 'Garmin' or 'Host'. So I cannot install the camera database. I also can't see any options in settings on the Sat Nav to change any interface setting when connected to my laptop.
In 'My Computer' the GPS is displayed under 'Portable Devices' whereas my older 2460LT is displayed under 'Devices with removable storage'.
I also only have 600mb free out of 7.02gb on the internal storage. What can I transfer over to the 7.38gb I have free on my memory card to free up more internal storage?
Thanks for any help

All I can think of is:
Do you have the latest POILoader because I had to update mine when I got a 2597 as it wasn't recognised? They have changed the latest units to mass storage mode, or something like that.
If you have then is the unit being recognised by Windows with the usual 'bing bong' when a USB device is plugged in? _________________ DashCam:

Strange, but quickest solution I can think of is select your PC instead of your GPS for the files and let POI Loader send the files to your PC, then manually copy them into the POI folder on your nuvi.
I do that anyway as I have 2 nuvis to keep updated.
Edited due to posting when still half asleep _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way.

Thanks for your replies. Regarding the POI loader I understood that only version 2.6 worked and that is what I have used with my 2460LT. When I last updated to the latest version of POI loader it would not work with my 2460LT. I have now downloaded the latest POI loader v2.73 and it now recognises my 3598 and I have been able to install the latest speed cams.
Thanks for that advice.
Can you advise me what I can move over from the internal storage of the 3598 (which only has 600mb free out of 7.2gb) to my virtually empty 8gb SD card.
Thanks for our help |

600Mb free space is ample, really no need to move anything.
The only thing likely to take up that space is a slow increase in the size of the map. Express though will continue to install the map internally until there isn't sufficient space, at which point it will prompt for a sd card. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Ok thanks for that info. I am continuing to get to grips with Basecamp and see your name on the Garmin forums too.
There appears to be quite a few differences in the way the various options are offered in the 3598 compared to my 2460 which I hadn't expected.
Still finding my way around it
On my 2460lt I could tap the chosen route (when the Sat Nav had calculated the route) and it would show me the complete route, so at least I knew I was then heading n the right direction.
With the 3598 if I tap the chosen route it just offers me the option to drive to the location on the map where I have just tapped. Do you know what I have to do in order to see the complete calculated route?
Thanks again for your help.

Never had a 24xx model so not sure how that worked.
On all Garmins I've used, and it will be the same on yours, when navigating tap the top bar, then the 3bar icon and then Map ... that brings up the full route. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

On my Garmins I have cut/pasted the vehicles and voices (languages) I don't want to a Windows folder, never just delete.
Also look at the helpfiles languages that you don't want.
I think everything else is best left as is for safety.
Reminds me, I must compare my 2597 and 2599 for capacity because my 2597 needs a SD card for full Europe maps so I switched to UK only but my 2599 is still on internal memory only and has full Europe with space left. _________________ DashCam:

I would re-install the map, as when I bought my 2599 a few weeks ago there was only 600MB free, but after doing the map re-install using Garmin Express I had 1.2GB free. It does take about 2 hours though. _________________ GO 620, Tomtom Android EU,

Ok, thanks for that. I will try re-installing the map and see if it free's up any internal storage
