|
|
Nineteen mobile speed cameras will take to the streets of Hull on April 1st.
Hull council opted out of the Safer Road Humber scheme back in 2011 to save a reported £200,000 annually, but now the cameras are to be reinstated.
The city already has four fixed cameras, but only one mobile - the new mobile sites will all be marked by signs.
The revenue to pay for the new cameras will come from money raised through driver speed awareness courses. It is expected that the majority of drivers caught speeding will be eligible for the courses which are priced at £95 - the alternative of accepting a speeding ticket costing £100.
Hull City Councillor Martin Mancey said: "Motorists know where the fixed cameras are and slow down as they approach them, before speeding up again. Mobile cameras are different – they should act as a reminder to motorists that they do not have the freedom to drive willy-nilly, at speed, around our city."

Why on earth would they need 19 guns? Perhaps they mean that they have identified 19 good places to trap? |

Yes, although the Hull Daily Mail's headline says "19 new mobile speed cameras", thinking about it, it would be much more likely that the police will use just one or two cameras rotated through 19 sites. _________________ Robert Brady |

Interesting chicken and egg question...
How can they buy cameras from revenue gained from speed awareness courses offered in place of fines for being caught by cameras they haven't bought yet because they haven't got any revenue from them. DOH. _________________ Dennis

So the next thing is they'll bring down the global finances and we'll have to bail out the camera partnerships. _________________ Dennis

"Hull City Councillor Martin Mancey said: "Motorists know where the fixed cameras are and slow down as they approach them"
you could add "and thus not producing any revenue"
And here's me thinking that's exactly what the cameras were for? Slowing drivers down.
Surely the councillor is not suggesting they prefer mobile sites because they catch more drivers out and thus provide more revenue. Surely not..............
If it's not about revenue why leave the partnership in the first place?
Incidently the signs and markings for all the 19 sites in question are still in place but the sites have been inactive since they left the partnership.
Drivers round the area should particularly lookout for the black coloured unmarked motorbike complete with operative all in black and camera and tripod hidden behind the bike...........................you guessed it, all painted black. usually 'hidden' behind bushes and under trees. Particularly on the exit from Patrington [West bound] [A1033] East Riding of Yorkshire. Semi rural 30mph zone looks like it should be at least 40. |

We have a few cameras round my way that are 50 but some drivers brake heavily and go through them at 40.
I think they should all have the limit painted in black on the yellow backing. That way they would be safer. _________________ DashCam:
