My old Tom Tom GO910 is on its last legs. Been offered a good deal by Tom Tom on a replacement with latest GO 500 or GO60 which I really want. Two minds though as I understand that the new ones work of a server rather than a memory card and you can't add own POI's or Pocket World Cameras. POI's aren't so much of a problem but if I can't use Pocket GPS World cameras then it's a deal breaker. Don't like Tom Tom Safety Cameras. pocket are so much better.
Anybody got any updated info on this. Don't want to shift to another Sat Nav. Used to Tom Tom and consider it the best for me. |

At this point, you cannot use custom poi files on models such as the two you mentioned. But TomTom is working on it so I would think that functionality will appear sometime in Q1 of 2015. _________________ David |

Might I hesitantly suggest you hold off buying one until they actually DO allow third party POIs, but without holding your breath? Yes, that does include pgpsw camera database. _________________ Dennis

Strange. I think I'm right in saying that ever since the first Nav3 models, TT introduced every new model with 3rd party POIs not enabled. But then after pressure perhaps, added the facility after quite some time, with each new model not having 3rd party POIs, eventually adding them months later.
As this will be the nth example of new without, then eventually getting them, you'd think TT would have twigged that users like them, so stop messing about and give 3rd party POI capability with the INTRODUCTION of newer models instead of waiting to see if they can get away with it (like they've got away with dropping so much over the last few years). _________________ Dennis

Don't understand TT PHILOSOPHY on this. I can live without 3rdparty POI's to a certain extent. The big deal breaker for me is the Safety Cameras. Always been of the opinion that their own Safety Camera facility is not only overpriced but greatly inferior to that of Pocket GPS World. The gap between updates on TT alone is inferior to that of Pocket. Always seems to me that TT seem more interested in what they want rather than what their customers want.. Doesn't seem like good business to me. |

It's not just the cameras. I have POIs for business addresses and simply can't add them to the latest TT models. So I don't buy the latest models. And I keep another older device on the windscreen to carry my POIs. There will be hundreds of users out there with the same problem - think salesmen as just one tip of the iceberg. _________________ Dennis

I'll keep using my old GO910 for as long as it still works. I have voices for different types of cameras. Done by a very good celebrity impressionist. Would miss not having them as they brighten the journey.. Al Pacino telling me there's a camera ahead and using my name brightens the journey. Yeah I know sad! |

I think the closest we ever got to pressurising TT was the Facebook group formed in protest about them reducing the HD Traffic horizon and the threads on their own forum. But TBH none of those did a great deal. Maybe the one which hurt most was their own publicity page lauding HD Traffic, where some of us posted harsh words - enough to make them take the page down! But HD Traffic continues to be flaky and they haven't taken steps to handle it. Years!! _________________ Dennis

I've never known any other piece of sat nav than TT. Some talk about Garmin and how it's used by the armed forces yet others slate it. Pm pared to TT. ANY THOUGTS. |

I've tried at least three other brands including Garmin and given up very quickly on all of them - perhaps too quickly to give them a fair chance, but given up nevertheless.
So I'm between a rock and a hard place - can't stand the competition and hate to go anywhere near the latest TT stuff. _________________ Dennis
