|
|
Member of Scottish Parliament and ex-policeman John Finnie has accused The Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Danny Alexander of "inventing" stories about drivers using country lanes to avoid the new A9 average speed cameras.
Finnie said that Alexander "alleges that, in order to evade the speed cameras, drivers were using "rat run" minor roads, such as the old A9, to somehow circumvent the efforts to control speeds."
He added "I have spoken with Police Scotland's head of road policing, Chief Superintendent Iain Murray, about this suggestion and I'm advised that not only did the police find no evidence from their patrols that this was taking place, but communities along the route advised they hadn't seen changes in road use."
A spokesman for Danny Alexander, who is also the MP for Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch & Strathspey said: "Mr Alexander had a very productive meeting with Chief Superintendent Julian Innes at the end of last year after several constituents on the A9 corridor raised concerns about increased traffic flow and speed on the B-roads that service those communities."

Well, although it wasn't immediate, this is exactly what happened in Edinburgh when they started the bus lanes, never mind the trams! Small narrow streets with cars zooming each way. I know cos I used to do it when I worked there and it was way faster than the main routes!!! |

The initialisation WWW contains three times as many syllables that World Wide Web so why initialise it? |
