Any advice please.
I was leading a 16 mile walk today, from a walk I had already walked and saved. All I did was reverse it. Before setting off I calibrated the compass and off we went. I set the route to 'Trail Up', but how is the best way to 'lock it' so that the route doesn't keep jumping around.
Ideally, I would like to see the Blue circle which shows you where you are, to remain fixed in the centre of the screen and let the trail do the work, a bit like my car SatNav. Thanks for any advice. |

Hi FrequentFlyer.
Not sure about the effects of Trail Up or of reversing the route (so this may need a rethink) but my first reaction is to do what I always do and that is - after "activating" the relevant route to press the left hand bottom button twice. The first press should take you to the map screen and the second should centre the blue circle (you are here) on the map screen. Then unless I hit the joystick my location should remain in the middle of the map screen and all I need to worry about is whether the cursor is anywhere near the route as marked on the map.
Did that help? Or do I need to do a bit more research? _________________ LostMike

I use the SatMaP 10 but I think it's the same for the Active 12.
For the SatMap 10 (SatMap 12 now the other forum) there are three possible settings: North Up, Trail Up (Centre), Trail Up (Low). In either Trail Up setting the map orientates to match the direction of travel; that is, the map moves around to keep the direction of travel at the top of the screen. In Trail Up (Low) the blue location icon is positioned low on the screen so you can see more mapping ahead of you. The locator circle never moves in any setting; it's either centred (North Up, Trail Up (Centre)) or near the bottom in Trail Up (Low).
Which is why I always use North Up so it's similar to using a paper map...you just get used to reading upside down as it were!!
Hope that helps. |
