|
|
Have now been running a 2599LMT-D for about one month.
How can I report database errors to foursquare? I find that locally it reports five restaurants - three are no longer in business and one is listed on the wrong side of a motorway?
Many thanks for any help |

Thanks for that link. It is useful.
What I must now ask is how to update the database on my newly purchased Garmin: the places I have listed and want to delete are not listed on the foursquare website database and so cannot be suggested as an edit?
I have connected and updated the Garmin but that part has not changed since purchase.
Once again, thanks for any guidance |

Can't really help further as I don't use Foursquare. Are you sure they are Foursquare locations though and not POIs embedded with the map?
You can report map errors through http://mapcreator.here.com/mapcreator/31.786427582245,44.322329,3,0,0
HERE are the company that supply the mapping data to Garmin.
Note that any corrected map, or indeed Foursquare, errors may take a while to be published since Garmin maps are only updated every 3 months or so, so depending where in the update cycle the error is reported it could be up to 6 months before you see a change. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Thanks for your thoughts. I will check if they are embedded - I simply presumed that Garmin trumpeting the connex with foursquare would be using those entirely. |

Well they can't use those entirely as their maps come with embedded POIs. Foursquare is an add on, not a unique replacement. See this from Garmin:
Need help finding the perfect places to go? Our POI database now includes additional search information sourced from Foursquare. Foursquare adds millions more points of interest, so you can discover new and popular restaurants, shops, services and more in your area.
They say there it's 'additional' so it seems you'll get both. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

That is exactly the case, the embedded options do show first but at the top of the listing it includes more from foursquare.
I presume this is then a case of notifying a map error and waiting, as you say, a year or so until the validation and then update flows through.
Thanks for you help. |

If they did validation, they would not be wrong in the first place |

Does the Garmin have a data connection?
If not then I would assume that they are hard-coded with the POIs and would be updated with the map updates.

Well map embedded POIs are updated with the map. I would guess that Foursquare will be updated at the same time although Garmin if they wished could update at whatever frequency they wish to.
Those able to use smartphone link seem able to access Foursquare directly. This from Garmin on the nuvi 2689:
With so much data, nüvi 2689LMT makes it easy to find addresses and millions of POI – that is, businesses, stores, restaurants or other destinations. Our POI database also includes accurate, relevant information sourced from Foursquare. Now, when you search, the most relevant Foursquare result appears at the top of the list. It’s an easy way to discover new and popular restaurants, shops and more.
When you use the Smartphone Link app with your nüvi 2689LMT, you can also check-in on Foursquare and access more detailed information about the POI, including ratings, price range and hours of service. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |
