This is just a moan really as there's nothing any forum member can do.

I drove from Liverpool city centre to rural Yorkshire and back over the weekend.

The Garmin live traffic was going mad posting up delays and alternative routes, and eventually calculated the fastest route. It announced that Edge Lane was closed.

For those that don't know, this the A5047, the primary route between Liverpool city centre and the M62 - it's a dual carriage extension of the motorway really. It's recently been seriously upgraded and is renown for congestion at peak times and when football matches are on.

I had the radio on, there was lots of traffic info, but bearing in mind this is a major route, nothing was mentioned about it.

I ignored the SatNav and drove along Edge Lane, with the SatNav telling me turn off every time there was side road. There was no sign of any diversion or indeed, delay. Traffic was flowing well. As I approached the junction where the SatNav said the road was blocked, there was nothing to see. I drove on, the route was re-calculated and there were no further delays.

I returned home the following day, and according to the traffic info, Edge Lane was closed again. I took no notice, and, surprise, surprise, no closure and no delay.

I'm relatively local and knew my way around fairly well, but for someone who didn't, this is unacceptable.

What's the best way to report erroneous info?

If you're using Smartlink there seems to be an issue

Sorry, not using Smartlink but the satnav's own source via the power cable aerial.

There seems to be nothing wrong with the device - it's responding as expected but the info is duff. Garbage in, garbage out.

Is this a FM or Digital unit ?

I've found FM, which uses TMC RDS to be a tad dodgy at times but the digital units that use Inrix are actually quite accurate.

If you go into Traffic under settings it shows who your traffic is coming from.

Device = nüvi® 2548LMTD, Western Europe

I need to go into the car to switch it on to identify the suppler of the data, but it's digital and probably INRIX.

I have the INRIX app on my phone, but it has a major shortcoming - you have to be at the location of the incident to send in any info about it. Which is clearly tricky for a solo driver. It doesn't seem possible to send in info retrospectively.

I've not experienced duff info from my 2508, if anything it's too reliable ... compared with the previous 'FM system' I've ignored it a couple of times thinking it must be wrong only to regret it later Rolling Eyes

I did a run from Reading to Heathrow along the M4 this morning from 07:00 to 08:00 and my built in TMC RDS was wrong as it showed traffic where there wasn't any but my Garmin digital was almost spot on.

1. I've investigated further and the incident in question on Edge Lane was not 100% accurately reported. The closure was not Edge Lane but a side road off it. INRIX reported the location probably no less the 20 metres from the actual, but in Edge Lane rather than the side road.

2. Here's a standard response from INRIX re: Reporting/Confirming/Clearing an Incident

"To report an incident you will need to have the full map on your screen where you can see the five buttons at the bottom. The button in the lower-left with the exclamation point (!) is the Report Incident button. Tap that and you can report Police activity, an Accident, a Hazard or Construction activity. The last thing you can report is that the traffic color on our map is wrong.

"When you tap on an Incident icon on the map a box will appear and you will have the option to confirm the incident by tapping CONFIRM. You can also clear the incident if it is no longer present by tapping ALL CLEAR.

"The incident reporting/confirming/clearing radius is two miles. This helps us cut down on falsely reported incidents. "

I'd love to add to Inrix's data but this is impossible and dangerous when your in the car alone.

I did try to clear a blocked road report once when I got to the office but it told me I was too far away Rolling Eyes

The answer would be for the Inrix app to be manually 'activated' and 'deactivated' and then to monitor your progress automatically. If the number of local users is accurate (mine reports over 6,000 local users) then as a group Inrix could determine your speed and react accordingly.

I think that's what the old TMC units did or probably still do

I'm having a dialogue with Inrix about the accuracy of their info. They're very concerned and looking into my report. I've sent them details, but sadly I didn't have the screen capture activated at the time to fully support my claims.

Moral: keep the screen capture active all the time!
