|
|
My 5 year old 950 Go is starting to become unreliable - often locking up/rebooting itself. This isn't helped (I think) by the fact that I am not using it on a day to day basis as my daily commute has changed and there are fewer traffic issues which is another reason why I have let my traffic subscription lapse.
Whilst I've had TTs now for close to 9 years it may be time to look elsewhere for a replacement due to the direction TT have been taking with recent models.
My requirements are basic
* UK, Western EU and NA maps
* PGPS warnings
* Turn off voice guidance but still have camera warnings
* Traffic updates without having to use data on my mobile phone (ideally but not a deal breaker)
* Would like to be able to "go via" when planning a route
* Be able to use a fixed mount (I currently use a Brodit)
* Screen at least the same size as I have today
Is anybody able to recommend any models to look at? I paid north of £250 for the 950 5 years ago. I'd pay the same now if I could get another 5 years use from a replacement.
Thanks in anticipation. _________________ Kev

If you are using a memory card, simply buy a new one and copy across all the files (including hidden files) from the old one. That has solved problems on my 740 which is older than your device when it has become unreliable in the way you describe.
Memory cards do wear out, as will the internal memory which is why I always use an external card rather than internal memory if it is an option. |

I agree.
Hang onto the 950 as long as you can. Nothing that TomTom has produced since has the same feature set. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Thanks.
Will try moving to operating from an SD card as I've been using internal memory to date.
Will look for instructions for how to do this but I assume it is a case of copying the internal memory to a card using Windows explorer? _________________ Kev

For the record (any anybody else having a similar problem in the future), I've been running the device from a SD card, just copying the entire memory structure from the internal memory to the SD card since mid Sept and have not had any device crashes/lockups.
Fingers crossed it carries on behaving itself...

Hahah a wish I had known that trick as I could have used it both of my 950s. I have just recently bought a GO6000. Ok I know it's not my super 950s but considering the £50 cash back plus some other offers going on at Halfords it means I only paid £165 for it.
So is there an idiots guide for how to copy these files and also what size SD card is best?

I've used a 4gb class 4 card. Just happened to be what I had on hand. Installed in the device, connect via tomtom home. Browse to the device using windows explorer. Copy all of the internal memory and paste onto the memory card.
Whenever you connect the tt to your computer select the internal card for updates. _________________ Kev
