Just a slight update.
I tried using the voice commands yesterday - and it worked really well.
I tried going home and going to two addresses that I spoke aloud. All worked.
I've not done this before (it may be old hat to others), so I was surprised how easy it was to use. And, being in the car on my own, there was no-one to hear me talking to myself

I'm still waiting for a radio station DJ to cotton on to this and periodically shout 'Voice Command' down the speakers _________________ DashCam:

That's why it's a good idea to change the 'wake up' command |

Brought this unit yesterday to replace my tomtom go live 820 after my subscription was running out. After using it today from midlands to Central London and then burgess hill I must say I'm inpressed. The dab traffic didn't let me down once, always connected unlike my tomtom which would lose connection at least once a day.
Seems like I made the right choose :-)

Mine has been fine for weeks - until I needed to check traffic as I left work in Amersham - then the traffic refused to show me anything for about 10 minutes. No idea why. It suddenly started working as I got to the M25.
The other annoying thing is that it shows you the traffic ahead in that flyout display. But when it's over and you are past it - it insists on staying out and showing you that the road is clear. I wish it would fly back so I could see my other information underneath.
But otherwise it's OK. |

You probably realise but you can simply tap the 3bar icon bottom right and reselect what you need. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Alan, now there's a good idea that Garmin could adopt. Remove the 'No Reported Traffic Ahead' display if you have other items in your display list.
These days, car windshields are so 'raked' that SatNav's are often out of reach, I know mine is, without leaning forward and stretching and mine is just on the top of the dash. _________________ DashCam:

Yes, mine too. Although I am considering that CD carrier mount which would move it into range.

Let's drag up an oldish thread
My current 2597LMT uses the TA20 power/antenna. Having searched around, the TA20 indicates that my unit has the built in receiver, so far so good.
I've been Googling around but so far not found any concrete answers.
From what I have found it seems, but I can't be sure, that all units, whether my lowly RDS traffic unit or the higher spec digital traffic units all use the same TA20 cable if the receiver is built into the unit ?
The older units with the cable 'blob' are the GTMxx cables.
Oddity No 2 is that the Nuvi 2598LMT-D is £20 more than the 2599LMT-D and there are some differences in the specs on the Garmin site like the 2599 doesn't get the nu-maps guarantee, whatever that means.
So could I get a 2598 or 2599 and use my existing hidden TA20 that does seem to be receiving TMC RDS traffic albeit with only a few bars on the reception meter? That way I don't have to dismantle the dash again to get digital traffic. _________________ DashCam:

The TA20 is simply the power/antenna cable. If you buy another satnav with digital traffic it will work fine with that cable.
The nu-maps guarantee is that Garmin will update your maps for free within the first 90 days provided an update(s) is released. Clearly if you buy a unit with lifetime maps there is no need for the nu-maps guarantee.
Prices do seem strange but the 2599 only comes with the Western Europe mapset whereas 2598 has the full EU map, pays your money you takes your choice _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Ah ha, thanks
I'm now seriously considering the 2599LMT-D assuming it comes with a TA20. I just can't find anywhere that gives that level of info. _________________ DashCam:
