Do you have the space for a 7 inch satnav? It'll take up a lot of dash space.
If the sat soft is iGO, I hear that the truck version is quite good.

This similar product http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260911359316&ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:GB:3160 received good reviews on one of the main motorhome forums last year. It is iGo software.

I bought one myself and, whilst not perfect, it is better for large vehicles than my TomTom. It doesn't have a "caravan" option but you could put in overall length of the outfit.

As regards size, my wife drives our motorhome and I navigate so I mount it on the extreme left with the sucker attached to the windscreen just above the tax disc. It could be mounted on the other side but our rear view camera screen is there.

That's very similar to the one I was looking at. do you know if it has Realistic Junction View Realistic images of motorway junctions for easier orientation.

It doesn't have photo realistic views as far as I recall (not used it a lot yet) but it does have lane assist equivalent to modern Garmin and TomTom devices.

We used to have a Garmin Nuvi 1300 and currently have a TomTom Go Live 820 and the lane assist is as good as those two. Certainly much better than our previous TomTom Go 300.

I've always been very sceptical about Motorhome/Caravan sat navs because I could never get a straight answer about the quality of the base mapping data when I asked the various manufacturers. For that reason I decided not to pay the inflated prices for the devices. The device I bought is not perfect but IMHO much better value for money.

My version of iGO 8 does have a pictorial display of junctions on the main routes. I have only seen them on motorways in UK though. I wouldn't call them Photo Realistic, but it does display a fairly good representation of the junction ahead to assist in lane guidance in addition to its normal lane guidance icons at the bottom of the screen.

We used the sat nav today on a journey from Middlesbrough to the Birmingham area.

It does have photo realistic displays for some junctions, mainly the more complex ones on motorways from what I could judge, but not all. The lane assist was more than adequate on all junctions though - for instance flagging up the need to move into lane 2 on the M18 to take the M1 southbound well before the road sign.

It did try to take us via the A38 and M6 rather than the usual A42/M42 but I guess that is probably down to either similar journey times or that it was judging on truck speed limits rather than motorhome (same as a car). For that reason I think use of an atlas when planning a route may be worthwhile - but that is no bad thing with any sat nav.

Yes, the A38 route is viable. It just seemed strange as it had never been suggested for that journey previously. When returning yesterday the device went for the M42 route straight away. A good job as it happens as there were delays on the A38 around Derby Smile

i have one in my truck and running with both tomtom truck and this one.
1 trip was from saffron walden to Milton Keynes, tomtom wanted to go up to Cambridge and then back to milton, the igo took me more direct through royston /amptill ,saved a few miles and about 20 or so minutes.
In myview its a decent bit of kit for the money, just take a little getting used to after having tomtom truck for a few years.
less than £50 it's def worth a punt. Wink
