In a new twist to the region's long running speed camera debate,
HGV drivers have threatened a go-slow on the A9.

They are up in arms about the average speed cameras which are being introduced along the road which is also known as the spine of Scotland.

They want the Scottish Government to scrap the £2.5 million project. The cameras are not actually live yet.

Conor McKenna, who previously led a campaign to increase the HGV speed limit along the A9 from 40mph to 50mph commented "it is only a matter of time before there is an accident".

He said that there have been reports of truckers slamming on their brakes as soon as the cameras come into sight.

McKenna intends to arrange convoys to demonstrate what he believes will happen when the cameras come into force, effectively causing a go-slow between cameras.

Highland MSP Dave Thompson called the move "utterly irresponsible".

Perhaps the truckers should just stick to the limit, honestly!

If they have to 'slam on their brakes' when they see a speed camera they're travelling far too fast and are a danger just by driving that fast.

"Slamming" on the brakes is just a headline catcher.
Anyone not knowing where the cameras are and who drives for a living should invest in a subscription to pocket GPS !
In reality average speed cameras are just that, average.
You could go like stink between them so long as you stop for a bit to drop you average down to their limit if that how you get your kicks, and its something a satnav device will work out for you.

I think the term 'comfort braking' was used in a previous discussion. It seems to me that the majority of drivers like to go past any camera below the actual speed limit. So not only does a warning of a camera get people to check their own speed, it prepares drivers for others to brake.

You needn't worry.

Lorry drivers wouldn't have balls or have brains to do it, for the simple reason that too many of them wouldn't keep the idea, the time & date schtum.

I mean by making it known in the public domain that they've had the idea/notion of doing it, proves the point.

Secondly, they're too reliant on trucking. No movement, no wages. Simples.

It's bit like asking a woman to shut up talking... Not a chance in hell! Rolling Eyes

But then you're probably one of life's brown nosers aren't you. Don't tell me that you have never ever gone 1mph over the limit, because I will tell you you're a liar!

It doesn't bother me I know most of the back routes to where I frequent anyway and most of them are quiet so I can get a fair lick on, mind you all these silly cameras will do is transfer the traffic to the smaller roads so more accidents.
