|
|
I have a tomtom 540, but I am reluctant to pay for live services when the new tomtom have free traffic & maps. I am also not that keen on having to use a smartphone for the data link on the lower models.
I am considering the garmin range, but cannot find how the garmin digital traffic compares to tomtom HD. Does any one have any information regardiing coverage/accuracy? |

garmin digital traffic is spot on. It always tells me when I am sitting in a jam :o)
If a road ahead is blocked, it will reroute without giving a choice, but if it is heavy/slow it will pop up & give you a choice to avoid the road & an estimate of time saved. This is based on my 3598 with digital traffic receiver.
I think there is only one company in the uk monitoring traffic anyway, inxs or something similar. It just depends how quickly it is beamed to our devices. Before this I had a TT with RDS traffic & that was fine too. |

Inrix
Got it on my phone and it does seem quite up to date. Probably because it's like the database here, it is updated by users.
My phone tells me I have 6000+ Inrix users in my area. _________________ DashCam:

Note that you can switch off the automatic reroute should you wish, mine is as I prefer to choose whether to be re-routed or not. |

mine is set to optimise route - on request, hence I get the pop up asking if I want to avoid a slow or congested area, & this is quite neat, showing saved time, however I have found for a blocked route, it tries to be clever & will announce it is rerouting, giving no choice. |

For blocked/closed roads you should get an icon top right ... if you tap it you can select to ignore it and stick to the original route. Handy if you know the road is now open!
Yes, the setting is 'Optimise route on request', that's what I meant when I said automatic rerouting is switched off |

my garmin has been playing up with traffic
on saturday it said the m1 was closed when it was open, a 12 mile trip was going to take 12 minutes even though there was a 7 minute delay (this would suggest I could do 12 miles in 5 minutes in a 50mph section) - not always popped up to say traffic ahead (but if pressed button to show traffic it would show the delay)
other than that, garmin traffic is usually good |
