Hi guys
Having owned The Tomtom 6000 for 3 months now
Regularly updated
I'm just not liking it due to the no alternative routes, and a few other niggling annoyances - i use it 3 times a week around the UK and Europe on gigs with my band
I want to get the Garmin 3598
Does it still have the annoying grey screen of death?
anyone got rid of their go 6000 for a 3598?
are the latest batches okay when updating via Garmin website?
May sell the 6000 if the 3598 is better
I had a garmin years ago, but sometimes the roads would disappear or the instructions couldn't keep up with the cars position! Annoying grrrrrr _________________ Wayne Harris (Pro Musician)

Hi,
I've just got rid of my 3598 and dropped to the 2598 mainly due to the grey screen issues and that for a £300 device the maps won't fit on the unit so you have to get an external card minimum 8GB
The 3598 is a brilliant device if you get one that does not inherit the problem of the grey screens (and trying to get help from Garmin on it is diabolic). I was unlucky and got two devices having the same issues. Even my Nexus 4 running multiple apps never had the can of display issues the dedicated unit had.
If it wasn't for the screen issues on the 3598 I would have kept it as the build quality is far superior to the TomTom 5000/6000 devices

I have both
The Garmin has better build quality, quicker interface, and plenty of features (although many not as easy to access as on the TomTom 1000 series)
Their HD Traffic is pretty good too - although not as quick picking up (reporting) problems as TT in general
My TomTom 6000 seems a little swifter after the last firmware update, and I prefer the visuals (clearer) and vocal direction
We're all expecting (promised) an update for it soon, which will hopefully (finally) bring features like Road Block / force Alternative Route, and Custom POIs
If I had to get rid of one, it would still be the Garmin that gets the boot _________________ TomTom Go Live 6100, 600
