|

Having problems with mine (on a 1440T) Garmin Express tells me that both Western Europe and Software "are up to date", and no updates available (apart from two small ones I am not interested in), and yet normally when advised on here about an update it just runs!
Western Europe is 2014.40 and Software is 6.20 - it offered me a Garmin Express update, which I took, giving me 3.2.4.0, but still nothing offered to update.
So I downloaded Garmin Express fresh on to a laptop, with the same result!!
What now please - anyone!!??

Found out within the last 24 hours that there isn't a 2015.10 NT version of the 2015.10 map, only the NTU version. The 14xx series and earlier require the NT version, and it seems that Garmin (yet unverified by them) have dropped the NT map update to twice a year.
I've contacted Garmin, when I get further details I'll post back. |

Hi Sussamb
that was quick - thanks - I bet if I had written direct to Garmin they would have taken a tad longer to reply!!
I will await your update on the update - how long before they renege completely on "lifetime updates" for the NT versions!!
cheers

Well lifetime updates says 'up to 4 times a year' so 2 a year still meets the promise |

And so does one!!
But if they want their clients to be safe we should have the same updates as the other, newer, purchasers, or we might go elsewhere and bang a drum! |

Well I rarely see any changes from one update to the next but I really can't see why Garmin felt the need to do this ... However it's all hearsay at the moment. |

Can't see one.
Now got 7.05 Gb total internal storage of which 1.83Gb is free and the map file is now 3.41Gb
However, just noticed that my memory card is now sailing close to the wind:
Only 272Mb available so it must be a 4Gb card which may not be big enough anymore ? _________________ DashCam:

Well that was impressive:
Went and got a 8Gb card, put it in. Garmin Express recognised that I had no maps and offered to install them.
Clicked OK and it didn't go to download them again, just installed them.
So this mornings 2hr download is saved somewhere on the PC
Second bonus was that according to the shelf the Sandisk 8Gb card with adapter was £12. Got to the till and they charged me £3.75 and that was a high speed card as well ! _________________ DashCam:

Yes I'm told it is saved somewhere so if you have 2 or more devices to update you don't need to download maps to PC more than once.
Incidentally in your situation you could just have copied the maps from one card to the other. |

Took a little time for me to upgrade my 2 x Nuvi units.
One is only a few weeks old (2518 UK & Ireland) and I go the error of not enough space
After deleting other language files and other files for foreign use freeing up 94.9Mb the update installed leaving 100Mb of free space.
My 2595 with Europe had a similar problem.
With the low cost of memory now why don't they make them with more free space built in as standard? |

Good question with no real answer from garmin. I guess when you're selling 10's or even 100's of thousands a few pence here and there adds up. As I've said before though it's no different than the phone and camera manufacturers, you need to install additional memory in them also.
As you've found though you can free up a fair bit of space, by deleting unneeded voice, text, keyboard, voice, help and EULA files. |

Now had it confirmed by Garmin, there isn't a 2015.10 CN EU NT map update, from now on the NT map will only be updated twice a year. |

i'm going to back up my new 2598LMT-D and then attempt to install the latest maps
I took the 3598 back today and halfords were brilliant - let me swap it for the 2598 and got £110 back they also let me keep the case I got for free when I got the 3598
just annoyed i had to take that route as the 3598 is a brilliant device, but it's literally let down by poor software
I did notice that the 2598 comes with a standard charger (TA20) and not the huge charger as with the 3598 |

I did initially try that but my card copier mini USB kept ejecting the cable. I didn't think of just using a straight Windows copy till just now.
My 2597LMT power cable was quite thin and thinner than I've seen in the past but it worked OK before I switched to Smartlink. _________________ DashCam:
