I rest my case. Censored overtakes Careful driver and as luck would have it, gets home about 5 seconds sooner, without killing someone, than he would have done by following Careful driver. |

Which is OK is it? There wouldn't be any drunks staggering out from between parked cars and wandering all over the road? And if there were and you flattened one, it would be OK because he shouldn't be drunk and incapable? I thought 30 was supposed to represent an area of some safety for others, particularly pedestrians, so there is no safe time to exceed it. If you're out and about, somebody else is too. |
I do that is usually at between 12 & 2 am in the countryside, so I'm going to be a real danger to some dumb drunk aren't I. _________________ Be alert.. This country needs more lerts. |

But you can be a "safe" or "careful" driver without being a "slow" driver.
Slow drivers often ARE a danger to themselves and others on the road, because they are either not paying attention, or they don't have the skills to make decisions promptly or accurately. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

And to say that the slow driver was the cause of the accident is just plain ridiculous. |

You are so wrong. Being too slow is dangerous, because you are causing issues with traffic flow and causing unnecessary delays not only to cars, but lorries, and possibly emergency service vehicles. It's first class ignorance to drive well below the speed limits.
I take it from your attitude that you do it. _________________ Be alert.. This country needs more lerts. |

At £60 a throw, that's not far short of half a million per van per year. No wonder they can afford a few new bikes at £50,000, with the prospect of them earning their bit too.
Makes you wonder how it was possible to decide the fixed cameras weren't earning their keep - surely a mere 1,000 caught would clear the costs? But wasn't it to do with the money not going to the cameras, but to HM Government? |
I think you will find speeding tickets are now £100 not £60.
People moan but its simple, dont speed, then the camera will not prove its worth. |

Or if you're tired and old, it's the sheer terror of speed. Anything over 53mph has me feeling thankful for the blessing of incompetence pads. _________________ Dennis

Stats, stats and more stats. From the WesternDailyPress link in the OP ..
Quote: | Reported incidents of domestic and sexual abuse have risen by six per cent, indicating people are becoming more confident to report it. |
How do they know that? and it's not that the the police service is no longer as effective as it used to be and that these violent offences are not actually on the increase? But hey! no worries, they are catching the real crims who are speeding on dual carriageways, so that Ok then.
BTW, slow drivers are a real PITA. I always drive within the speed limit and consider myself a safe(ish) driver but see red when some Mimsa is holding up a queue of traffic and, evidently, doesn't consider the effect they are having on the drivers behind. Pull over why don't you? let the traffic pass then everybody can relax. _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599

But I bet they are safe drivers and have fewer accidents than the impatient b*s behind them Dennis.
Why don't they pull over? Foe exactly the same reasons that caravan towers don't. "They pay their road tax." |

In my book, part of being a good road user is being a considerate road user. If I look in my mirrors and see that I am holding up a queue of other road users, I wouldn't think "sod 'em, I pay my road tax". I would and, at times, do pull over and let them pass. That way they can make progress and I can drive more relaxed also.
Not to do so is sheer Bloody-Mindlessness or ignorance, surely?

How do they know that? |
Perhaps they know it from another report in the Western Daily Press that the Avon and Somerset Chief Constable has been suspended for investigation of abusing women members of the force?
