|
|
Under the "Speed Watch" scheme, residents in Shefford, Bedfordshire have received training from the Bedfordshire and Luton Casualty Partnership on how to use speed cameras in an attempt to slow down speeding motorists in their area.
Forty volunteers have learned to use the devices which capture details of the colour, make, model and registration of any vehicles exceeding the speed limit.
The police will send a letter to offenders pointing out that the violation was recorded.
If necessary, they will receive a second letter following a further violation. If they are caught three times they can expect further action.
Sergeant Gary Kidd from Biggleswade Police commented: "Speed Watch has continued to grow across the county with more and more people wanting to do something positive for their community. The training events we hold normally involve small amounts of numbers from one particular area but by holding a larger session we are able to have more teams out in their communities a lot sooner."
He continued: "Excessive speed on the roads is one of the most common issues raised by residents across Bedfordshire and has an impact not only on road safety but on the quality of life of those that endure it.

I do not condone speeding but this country is becoming like China and Russia whereby "citizens" (including Local Councils) are being urged to spy on and report the alleged wrongdoings of their family, friends and neighbours. _________________ Mike -

In some respects there's nothing wrong in that. The police and security services etc can't be everywhere. It's our country, it's only reasonable we help to keep it the way we want it |

But the politicians ensure that we can't. |

For once, this does look like a reasonable alternative route between Bedford and Letchworth / Stevenage so they could catch more non-locals that other speedwatch vigilantes seem to target.
From the article, I take it the first aid training is for when the "conflict resolution" training fails.

40 residents from Shefford? My memory of living/driving in that area some 50 years ago is that they would be just about the entire population of Shefford. _________________ Dennis

A silly question but what standing does this have in law (i.e. can you be done?) - I thought only the Police could gather evidence from such devices to facilitate a prosecution?? |
