New Tom Tom Go 500

Is there a review of the new Tom Tom Go 500 anywhere on the site? Also can anyone advise if the GPS speed camera database is compatible? My very old Go 500 has finally given up the ghost so time for a new one. Always been happy with the Tom Tom and like the new interactive map. Any tips anyone? Thanks.

Can't help but if you search for Go 500 you get 2,413 hits. I suspect theres something about it. Try the more recent ones.
this thread I think it says it's not compatible with any third party POIs

Completely new "look and feel" If you are used to previous TomTom's it won't feel like one at all.

Very "washed out" colour scheme and no way to change the map colours.

roads are shown just as lines rather then the different colour stripes that we are used to.
Only SOME side-road names are shown as you approach them, while driving.

Simple things like "Navigate to home" which used to be three quick taps in the top left of the screen, no w require it to find it in "MYPlaces" then let it show you a map of where you live and then for you to tap a very small icon next to it on the map.

No room to show time of arival and distance to go at the same time, it has to cycle between them

No third-party POI ability at all (yet?).
There is a "Search" system that surprises me sometimes by what it DOES find (eg a small, independant MOT garage near me), but it usually amazes me by what it should find but doesn't (such as some railway stations!)

No Favourites as we are used to them. Everything is now "My Places"
No straighforward way to search for things near different locations.

No "Find alternative route"
No "Avoid roadblock"
No "Itinerary planning"

No way to browse the map and leave it at a location while you go back to navigating.

It really beggars belief on what the designers at Tom-Tom are thinking about when they just downgrade stuff and remove features that were already there previously. They have the code, so why strip it out just to dumb down the devices making them less and less useful whilst designers of other devices such as mobile phones are stuffing more and more features on them. (some of which are a total waste of space for some people, but at least they are there)

Given this list of essential features which are no longer available, I'm wondering what course of action Andy_P (or any other TomTom devotee) is likely to take when their current device needs replacing. Switch to Garmin or other manufacturer? Make use of a navigation app on a mobile phone - which one? Or just struggle along with ever-decreasing TomTom functionality?

To put your question into context, IMO their mobile phone app (at least in its Android implementation) has less functionality than any PND with no itineraries, custom POIs, sound alerts, Map Share or any facility to backup Favorites.

I'm in denial.
Just like DennisN I'm hoping that my existing PND's (snapped up once I saw the writing on the wall) shall see me through. Apps are good but I need a PND for proper journeys.
Hopefully, by the time it comes to it, TT shall make my next PND decision an easy one, one way or the other.

I'm so disappointed that the loyalty I have shown to Tom Tom over many years is not rewarded by them not recognising that third party poi's are a must. I am but one ex customer so it won't hurt them but their actions are a deliberate spiteful act.
