|
|
Hi
I have a Garmin. 2598 which had been working fine along with the Garmin link app with all four subscriptions active ... I thought I would have a go at installing the speed cams from PGPSW as I have a subscription but this time I installed the voices to go along with it .. Cut a long story short all installed fine and speed cams displayed and got the voice alerts ..... The problem I now have is that I used the POI loader to uninstall them and revert back to standard Garmin Speed cams for a while and since then I have been having a problem displaying them , I did a short trip the other day and got no speed cam warnings at all so I turned the unit off then back on again and every thing was working fine ... This has happened a few times now .
Did I do some thing wrong using the POI loader to uninstall them ? Will the loader also uninstall the WAV files for the voice alerts ? Or do I have to do it manually ?..Never had any problems before but saying that this was the first time I used the voice alerts as well ..
Thanks

Is not the built in Garmin database directional? If so, could this be the cause of the OP's 'problem'? |

No

Yes. When you upload the CSV and WAV files with POILOADER it packs them all into one file called poi.gpi. POILOADER would have deleted this file meaning you either had all or nothing. You can't leave the wav file behind.
Try the tips above. |

Yes they are, it would if the OP is expecting reports 'both ways' mo matter which way the camera is pointing |

Thanks for the replys. .If it carrys on I will try a reset , it was OK today ..just to avoid confusion I know there's not normally any voice with Garmin speed cams I used a program called SOX.exe or some thing like that to get voice alerts with the speed cams from this site ..there's only one reason I don't use erm and thats cos they don't display the red banner like the Garmins But as back up I use the Android PGPS app along side or when I don't use the satnav...saying that I aways the PGPS cams on my old satnav (fully uninstalled before I sold it) and never ever let me down .

The road at the bottom of me normally comes up as a 30 Mph camera zone ..but it didn't show plus the red light camera that normally would show didn't .. turning it off then back on fixed it for that session .
Thanks

Do Garmin's alerts only sound if you are going over the speed limit? _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Mine only do if I'm over the limit, but you get a pop up that tells you one is coming up, which turns red if over the limit. |

yeh the garmin only sounds when over limit when approaching a speed camera, if you have the audio alerts on.
the normal alerts for going over speed are useless - it will warn you that you are over speed, but will not warn again for around 3 - 5 minutes, even if you drop down and go back over speed.
I think there should be continuous tone like when approaching speed cameras if over speed limit or a user should be able to set frequency themselves.
the only other issue with garmin and speed cameras is that it don't calculate your average through an average speed zone, but the tomtom's do which is a good feature.
have mentioned this to garmin, but never got any reply back from them |

pretty pointless working out your average since even if you're in the habit of driving over the limit and then under, it'll still take the same time as driving at the average speed, so just do that |

I don't think I would ever trust a SatNav to calculate my average speed through a set of Specs.
In my case the cruise control is my master through those. _________________ Satnav:

Great idea if you're on a clear road. Not so practical in traffic though. |

Well generally in average speed zones it's fairly easy, but if traffic is heavy/slow it's not an issue anyway |
