Garmin have never provided a way to link instructions through the car audio system AFAIK, again I guess it's a personal thing ... it's never worried me.
You can set data fields to show all sorts of info, see here
To get those to show tap the 3bar icon lower right and select Trip data. Change the individual fields by tapping them and selecting from the list.
Speed limits are always a bit hit and miss whichever GPS you use. Helps if folks report any map errors ... you can do so here

Again many thanks indeed for the info.
I am making progress as I now have mastered the fantastic programme by kremmen and have the pgps world camera database up and running.
I have also purchased the GTM36 receiver with an external antenna and lo and behold I now have traffic info.
I bought the Garmin from Amazon for less than £95 and the Receiver and antenna cost some £22 on top of that.
I will now try the 3bars and play with the displayed info _________________ Jonial

Not sure if you're aware but the GTM36 is the older style traffic receiver. I've recently moved to a digital traffic receiver and find it far better. If you can you may wish to consider whether it's worth returning it and getting a digital one.

Hi sussamb
Regrettably when I click the 3bars there is no option for trip data only:- up-ahead, Volume, Traffic and brightness. I have stop and detour greyed out. _________________ Jonial

If you have entered a destination, you can add more and different things to the trip data. I have both a Garmin 2598 and a TomTom and used to find the navigation screen information on the Garmin very limited until I found out about this.

Many thanks indeed to all who replied.
After a week of playing and learning about the Nuvi I can take back some of my earlier misgivings.
I think I am now going to be a happy Garmin Nuvi user _________________ Jonial
