Hi,
Have not been on any long journeys for a while so have had no problems. However the other day needed to go further and started get the blank maps sections and "Unfortunately CameraAlert has stopped working" message. Not sure if you got the error log but I have copied it below.

Having started this thread in July I was still having frequent crashes. However these seem to have stopped since upgrade to KitKat, 4.4, on my Nexus 4. This upgrade has also cured some other problems such as involuntary rebooting. |

I just upgraded from my Galaxy S2 which suffered occasional crashes to a Galaxy S4 which is suffering constant crashes. It is making the app virtually unusable as I only activate it for specs zones. 5 times this morning it crashed in the M6 roadworks at Birmingham. Only once on the outbound journey was I prompted to send an email when the app re- started. It also asked one time during the several crashes on the way back home. If we click the send report compiled by Android, does that get to you?
I have seen no app updates for a long time and this issue doesn't appear to be going away. Any ideas what causes the issues at all?
Thanks

Not saying that this is relevant, but a recent upgrade for S3 to Android 4.3 has cause a bunch of problems. You haven't fallen foul of that have you? |

It would appear mine is running 4.3, but it is a new phone and came with it installed. None of my other apps that I have transferred across have been affected by any glitch in the 4.3 software.
I also have v1.3.10.765 of the CamAlet app.

I see that IoS has a new app version, are we any closer to finding a solution to the Android crashing problems? The app is not asking me to send crash reports when restarted, so I have sent the 3 that are currently on my phone. Is it worth sending the Marketplace reports, as we never know if they are received or not? _________________ Garmin Drivesmart 51 LMT-D Europe |

Sorry to be a pain, but are many users submitting the crash data? I know I have submitted several recently. Does the data tell you anything useful, i.e. what is causing the issue? Are the users that are reporting it all suffering from the same thing? Is there any news at all as the issue has been ongoing for a while now.

I have been having crashes with this app for quite some while.
It happend with my old HTC Desire S and is still happening with my new Samsung G4 Mini GT-19195 Android 4.2.2
The CamerAlert Version iv 1.3.10.765
The crashes happen about every 30 minuite or so.
When the crash happens a screen comes up asking if I want to report it.
I often do so.
I have sent at least 4 reports today.
I have looked in the location you say the reports should be in and there are no files there.
I like the app a lot and use it most of the time but the crashes are most frustration.
I do hope we can get them sorted. |

My Android 4.3 Samsung S4 is now unusable with the app as it crashes so often. Unfortunately, it is the only machine I have that I can use in the car.
I have also noticed that when the map refreahes, it zooms in and out, swings around (as if the car is driving around in circles) and then settles back down. I can drive for about 20 minutes or so before the crash. Stopping the car and restarting the app only sorts the issue out for a short while, then another crash. I have also tried cold booting the phone and that does not make any difference. I also can stream an internet radio programme for a similar journey, completely uninterupted so I would assume the phone signal is strong enough (Cambridge to Nottingham, Cambridge to South London) via the Three network.

I have found that if I open the app, then hit the home button so it is running in the background, then open the map again, it tends to stay running without problems for a longer period of time.
Don't know why it does it or if anything is being done about it as there has been a lack of response to this thread _________________ Garmin Drivesmart 51 LMT-D Europe |

Not saying that this is a solution but I used to get those "Out of memory" failures when using a different app on an Android.
I downloaded a free App Killer from the Play Store to kill the apps which constantly run in the background consuming memory. Killing those apps freed up enough memory for the apps I wanted to function correctly.
Just an idea. _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599

Thanks, I already have an app killer on the home screen, which I aways use and Android 4.3 on the Samsung also has a kill-all option from the right menu button. I dont like apps running in the background as so many of them these days are looking at what you are doing - I have nothing to hide, but why should I tell everyone what I am doing? Appreciate the thought though, kind of you to suggest it.

Have you got either Advanced settings ~ Use compass when slow or Use network locations set ON. I have had various strange things happening, weird map rotations and map jumping about (but not crashing) with them switched on. Does it still crash if you have it running in the background or in list mode with no maps displayed? |

Advanced Settings - yes, they were on; I have now turned them off and will try it at the weekend.

Test 1 - Every possible option de-deselected, Map on - lasted approx 5 miles before crashing.
Test 2 - Every possible option de-selected, Map off - lasted a nine mile drive and did not crash.
Can others with ANdroid app issues try and report back?
Hopefully a revised app / fix will be made available soon.
