Well I'd expect nothing more being a Garmin fan but it would be good to know which 3 |

1) Garmin 3597LMT (90%)
2) Garmin 2797LMT (88%)
3) Garmin 2598LMT-D (87%)
4) TomTom Via 135M (84%)
5) TomTom Go 400 EU 45 (75%)
Garmin won because of easy to read screens, straightforward instructions and a high level of polish to all key features. _________________ Satnav:

Thanks. I'd have expected to see the one with digital traffic beat the other two, maybe they didn't compare that
Or if they did they were swayed by the bigger/better screens. Give me digital traffic over those any day |

I agree, they probably just used them as basic SatNavs. _________________ Satnav:

Which do not give useful advice to "experts" they give advice to the person in the street who is in danger of losing their way. |

I can only think that tomtom have really messed up on the newer devices. My old tomtom go is far superior in ease of use compared to my new shiny hi-res garmin 3598.
Adding, removing & organising POIs was far easier on the tomtom. Personalising was far better. My new garmin shows me where all the macdonalds are. Why? I don't eat that stuff. The only option is to show all POIs or show none & garmin have decided that I must see where all the macdonalds are. tomtom allows for hundreds of POI categories and you can select which ones do/do not show on the map. Driving down the high street, garmin shows me cashpoints, restaurants, take-aways, garages. I don't want any of it, but have no option other than to display all this junk, which then covers the actual custom POI that I am looking for!
My tomtom allows me to opt for route preferences to be displayed before calculating. This is great, sometimes I fancy a scenic route (select shortest for a nice cross country dive) or walking, (when I have parked and need to complete the final part on foot) or limited speed (when I have a big trailer hitched up) Hey, it will even let me select a bicycle route.
tomtom will warn me when my route is on a toll road and give the option to re-route. Garmin will just stick you straight though it (unless you drill down into the option & select it as an avoid, and then it will not give the option to use the toll road)
I have not been able to play with a tomtom 9000, which I guess is the closest competitor to the garmin 3597/8. Would be interesting to see if this has all the useful functionality of the older tomtoms or if it now is as bad as the garmins. |

I agree, would be nice to turn off/on POIs as required but AFAIK Garmins have never had that option, so I suspect not enough people have asked for it.
You can easily ask your Garmin to recalculate a route should you wish a shorter, more scenic route or a longer/faster one. Most of my route selection is done on my PC and then sent to my Garmin, something I find very useful.
I like the idea of being warned if you're on a toll road, again though there must be a lack of customer demand.
Guess TT customers have espressed differing views to Garmin ones in the past |

I think the garmin softies must sit on their a*** all day, not using sat-nav in the real world, just getting fatter on the way home picking up a drive-tru maccyD & thinking it a jolly good idea that we should all be informed when nearing such an outlet
tomtom boys must get out more and use their products in the real worls. |

I'm sure I've turned off McDonalds and the like. I certainly don't get told of them.
I get the cameras and what junctions or landmarks are ahead. I do agree that they should get customer feedback and act on it though. _________________ Satnav:
