I'm finding that the SmartLink traffic shows on the Garmin when there is a delay you need to know about.
Obviously a bit selective ?
It is considerably better than TMC RDS that only shows Motorways and Main trunk roads and only updates every 15 minutes which these days is useless. SmartLink shows all my local delays which in West London are numerous and why I wanted this solution. _________________ Satnav:

Stupid question I know but should one disable digital traffic through the power cord/aerial when linked to smartlink? Would having the two supplying data be the cause of mine freezing by any chance??? |

Hi all. New guy here.
I've just bought a new 2598 after several years with a TT Go live 1000, I too have both smartlink and Digital through the cable running and when paired to my iPad I have no problems running both with the Garmin defaulting to smartlink first. I did have a freeze problem when paired to my iPhone but this may have been because it was also paired to my parrot car kit aswell and caused some sort of conflict. Hopefully having both running is ok as it's useful if there is no data signal where Dab would work and vice versa. |

To add to the above post I ran it today for about 300 miles and had re boot and frozen map screen issues with both DAB and smartlink traffic on.
I have done a master re set today and will see how it goes on Monday with no smartlink connection. |

It seems fine if it is just DAB. I have just found an old charger with no aerial so will try just Smartlink next week and see what happens. |

Ok, be interesting to see how that works out, if it's ok with smartlink connected that way it may well be worth me getting hold of a plain charger and deciding which traffic method gives the best info. |

In advance, and if you have the Smartlink traffic subscription you can view traffic within the app. _________________ Satnav:

Used the 2598 all day today with only DAB connected and it was fine all day no freezes or re boots, although the routing on my usual daily routes is at times a little odd and despite having avoid ferries checked it still tried to navigate me across a small ferry crossing the Norfolk broads. |

I've got to go from East Sussex to Bournemouth tomorrow morning and there is traffic on the route no matter which way one goes. I will use the other power adaptor with no aerial so this will be a good test for Smartlink on its own. |

Sorry to say the Garmin has gone gone back today for a refund, it rebooted in Central London yesterday and later froze again while just using the DAB traffic.
I honestly think Tomtoms traffic is more accurate and defiantly for me anyway had a more stable connection, after sending the Garmin back i downloaded tomtom for my iPad to use today and it's been great, constant traffic connection which is what I mainly use it for and also better routing.
As for traffic info I didn't run it side by side with a tomtom but it did show any hold ups when connected but I just didn't have the confidence I do with tomtom.
My old Go Live 1000 needed replacing so I thought I'd give Garmin a go but it wasn't for me.
Must say though Garmin UK's customer service was first class, very easy to get hold of and actually speak to someone, and very helpful.

I suspect you had a bad unit, my 2508 has been rock solid since day 1 |

So's my 2597
The big plus for me is that I get accurate traffic reports for minor A roads that TMC RDS just doesn't cover. Plus the updates are every 2 minutes and not the pathetic 15 minutes from TMC.
15 minutes on the M25 can mean another complete section between 2 junctions has changed into a car park. With 2 minutes I can get off toot-sweet. _________________ Satnav:

You mentioned 7mb a month for smartlink, is that still so? I think I'll try it out, haven't before as I have a 100mb limit but only seem to use up to 20mb a month so I've loads left for smartlink.
Will I get any issues with the TMC running at the same time?
Edit:
Just had a thought, my phone connects to the built in phone Bluetooth, will it also connect to the garmin at the same time?
I don't want to use the garmin's hand's free phone. |
