|
|
Often my GO 500 has to start from cold and after some investigations and a friend telling me it was still on after I had left the car several minutes ago I can see why.
After power down from the car it counts down and goes to sleep.
Then, less than a couple of minutes later it will be on again!
It will do the same in the living room after charging it and having it disconnected from everything.
A long push of the power button to get the Sleep / Turn off option comes up but selecting "Turn Off" does not seem to work.
Holding the power button down a long time does force it off
It is on the latest maps and firmware and I have not tried a factory reset yet as it is such a pain as all your POI's are lost forever and have to be re-entered not forgetting the pairing with my Nexus 4 for traffic data.

I'm confused as to whether this is one of the new "GO500" models or the old "original" GO500? (how could TT be so stupid as to re-use the same model number!)
If it's an old one, I didn't think they had the "sleep/turn off" option on the power button, and if it's a new one, surely they don't have POI ability (yet) _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

My Go 600 is doing the same thing. What HummerUK refers to as POIs is "My Places". _________________ Alan

my 720 series used to switch back on - it seemed to be related to having a route in progress - I wonder if they have managed to re-introduce the behaviour with their total re-write
I got in habit of clearing the route when I finished (something TomTom seems to think is not required often from where they put it in the menu) _________________ J. |

But as we all know, they are not the same thing at all! _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Thanks for the tips.
It is indeed the new GO 500 (20130 using Blue Tooth Tethering.
I tried a factory reset and it was better for a while but has started to do it again.
I was wondering if it is something to do with the mobile data links that causes the problem?
Using a Android Nexus 4 phone on KitKat for data should that be a common factor.

I used it for a week with no problems after a factory reset but did not pair it with my Nexus 4 for traffic.
Paired it with my Nexus 4 and the problem returned after a day where it would wake up again with the only way to stop it was / is holding down the power button till is forced off.
So I think a background traffic task does not always go to sleep as it should perhaps depending upon how good the connection is (or is not). |

Just wondered if you have any issues with bluetooth tethering. I have a MotoG and provided I leave Bluetooth on I can turn the 500 on/off and it always remakes the tether. If I turn bluetooth off then turn it on - ithe 500 won't make the connection - I have to turn tethering off/on on the phone then go to speed cameras on the 500 and press my phone id to re-make the connection. |

All round since a recent update to the device software it has been a lot better and has not turned itself on once...
The BT Tethering still is a little hit and miss and don't also forget if you power cycle your Android phone that the BT Tethering setting always defaults to off.
Why they don't save this setting heaven knows? |
