Posted: Mon Dec 09, 2013 2:38 pm Post subject: TomTom GO530 Internal Memory - Repair Suggestions? |
|
|
Good afternoon
Having read through the forum posts I believe the internal memory on my TomTom GO530 has given up as I can't see it and I can only boot the unit up when an SD card is inserted. TomTom are quoting a flat rate of €107 to send it for repair which I think is extortionate.
In the meantime I have bought an XL2 to keep me going but can anyone recommend a reasonably priced place to send my GO530 for repair?
Cheers

I suspect that most people who have had internal memory problems do just as you have done with the SD card, as they work quite adequately off that, without having to resort to an expensive repair or purchase of a new device. |

Try these people, they seem to know what they are doing , usually at a reasonable price, especially if you can take it to them in London thus saving postage.

Thanks everyone.
For now I think I will run it from an SD Card until next year, I've got quotes for £30 - £40 to fix it.
Any suggestions of SD card speed, I'm looking at a 4GB Class 10 30Mbs? |

Class 4 or 6 is plenty fast enough. Any faster & the device couldn't keep up anyway. |

The device can't keep up with the card???
It's a slow card that can't 'keep up' with the device that's a problem if the card is too slow. Having a faster one than the device can use is not a cost effective way of doing things, but will not adversely affect the performance so long as it's compatible in other respects. |

It's going to cost me £9 for a 4GB Class 10 Sandisk Extreme, not really a great expense. I ran a standard Kingston SD card in it yesterday and found the the map was struggling to keep up with my actual location, I'm guessing this is the read/write speed? |

Agreed, what I meant was don't spend any more on a faster than class 6 card as you won't see any advantages. |

The present card is a Dane-Elec 8GB SDHC Class 4
The new one is a Lexar 8GB SDHC Class 6....
Will update with the results (Need a delivery up to Scotland)
New Class 6 card installed into my TTG520T this morning and a return journey up to Clevedon completed. Certainly a faster refresh rate on the map (920.5241) and a smoother scroll whilst driving. |

Well I received my SD card last weekend and decided to sort out my TomTom, I switched it on with no SD card in it and it's now back to life and fully functional!? |

Ah - the very threat to stick something where it might be uncomfortable for the TomTom was enough!! |
