The TomTom GO 6000 is the Dutch navigation stalwart's current top of the range PND. It boasts a massive 6inch screen as well as their latest 'NAV4' software. The 6000 is also the only model of their latest batch of GOs (announced earlier this year) that has its own data connection without the need to connect to your smartphone. So, is bigger really better? Is the new map-centric NAV4 software any good? Can TomTom be forgiven for not including 3rd party POI support (again)?

|
For me the ability to not add my own or 3rd party POIs makes this a no buy model for me. Didn't TT learn anything the last time when they did this?  |

The UI design is based around the map. It is always visible behind the menu items etc. I did mention this... ;)

I would be a bit worried about that - as 1320 yards is 3/4 mile.

I wasn't saying 3/4 mil IS 750 yards just that the display shows for example "3/4 mile" instead of for example "750 yards"

Likewise.
When my trusty old 950 died last week, I was all set to buy the top-of-the-range 6000 to replace it, but once I realised that I could not import my own POIs (many of which can not be found by traditional POI searches - for example, the entrance to various camp sites at Le Mans or places in rural Ireland that just don't have an address), I bought a 1005 instead.
And after many years as a TomTom customer, and many different TomTom PNDs, I started seriously considering Garmin for the first time.
Epic fail.

Yes, I saw that but still wondered why the gobeldy gook phrase 'map-centric' was used rather than your concise later explanation. |

The thing that causes me most concern are the reports on TT's forum that the device loses the traffic connection without warning, and that it then does not automatically try to reconnect, you have to reboot/restart it. Was there any sign of this problem?

While I was just teasing, 750 and 3/4 seem too related for accidental chance (I am not sure I have seen a TomTom say anything other than multiple of 100 yards, when over 100 yards anyway)
Funny really as I would like it to say in metres below 1/2 mile but miles over that.

I didn't notice anything like that. When I first started it up it did take an hour or so to get a connection but then again I was at home where the GPRS signal for Vodafone isn't great. After that initial connection there were no problems.

Oops - my mistake. The battery indicator is there but only shows up when you have the menu open. I'll update the review.

| Obvious in'nit. Who on earth would want to see how much battery was remaining when actually using the device for navigating with the device not on charge? Still TT know (tell us) what we want. |

I found by typing in a postcode, it comes up with the street name. Highlight the street then simply type in the house number then press Drive |
