Mobile camera locations

Indeed, only the camera present information would be really useful. A quick search reveals at least two other apps that claim to do this, one free and one that charges less. That might suggest that it is not very difficult or expensive to do.

I personally know of only one other which claims to do this - TomTom. I have their Live Services and was once notified of a live camera on the M4 - they kept it live for several days.

Which suggests it's easy (and cheap) to talk about, but not easy to accomplish!

Maybe you'd like to send me tenner and your mobile phone number and I'll text you with live mobiles for a year.

Of the two I found Road Pilot looked to be the best one. How reliable the real time reporting is I couldn't say. No such system reliant on "the crowd" will ever be perfect.

Much better to be advised on where they might be rather than an unreliable 'they are there now'

Having thought about it there is no great advantage in knowing if one is live. You ought to treat all possible locations in the same way, they are generally out of sight until it is too late anyway.

Or, as I said 5 years ago, not entirely with tongue in cheek,

"If we can't predict where the mobiles could be, they could be anywhere! So we should all drive below the speed limit, at all times, just in case. And then, there's no need for the rest of the camera database. And for those who say they drive below the limit but use the camera database to warn them of potential accident blackspots - let me tell you, these days, everywhere's a potential accident blackspot."
