|
|
H all,
I have a version 1 (if there is such a thing) Tomtom go live 1005 Europe model. Bought it when first released. Haven't upgraded the map for over a year and tomtom have offered me via email a 12 month map upgrade service for £32.95. The email explains this is an upgrade to the latest map and the four new ones.
What troubles me is that the email mentions I may need a memory card to update the maps. Im guessing they mean the size of the new map is so big it wont fit into the device's internal memory. Well, as we all know this model didn't come with a memory card slot. If my assumption is correct and the new map doesn't fit onto the device, what is the point of them offering it to me...apart from deceiving me into parting with my money?
TIA,
Peter
NB The relevant bit of their email to me was
*To get the latest map of Europe you’ll need to have 1GB of memory on your TomTom device. Please be aware that you might need an additional sd card. |

How much memory does your device have? I thought it was at least 2GB. If not I don't think it's deceit on TomTom's part, just their usual incompetence.
I got the same email, even though I've subscribed to their MUS ever since it first became available, last renewed in August, and already have the latest map. _________________ Anita

I thought it was 2gb internal memory also. The fact then that the new map is advertised as 3gb does not bode well. I'm not expecting a successful download/install. If it all goes wrong, anyone know if ill be able to revert to the current map so at least the device is usable? |

It looks as if you should be OK.
From the TomTom discussion forums:
Quote: | there are indeed two different versions of the GO LIVE 1005. The first version comes with only 4GB internal memory and not card slot.... |

Don't forget that even if you ARE short on memory, you would automatically be offered the ZONED versions of the Europe map when you tried to download the update.
You would have to choose ONE of the zones to install (Western, Northern Central Europe etc.) but you are still entitled to ALL of the zones if you need to swap to another one at a later date. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Don't know what version mine is, then as it has 8MB memory - perhaps that is because it is a 'Camper' version. _________________ Gee-Pee

If you follow the link I gave to the TomTom forum topic you'll see that following on from my previous quote it says of v2:
Quote: | .... the second version instead comes with 8GB internal memory and a microSDHC slot supporting cards with up to 32GB capacity |

I'll let you off this time!
I should probably have included the bit about v2 in my original quote to make the difference between the two versions clear, rather than just answering the OP's question. _________________ Anita
