I've two reasons for asking; firstly, my subscription is up for renewal shortly; secondly, I'm eligible to upgrade my phone to 4S or 5 right now, but either choice would come bundled with iOS7. |
Yes, it's fine. It now works with iOS7.

Thank you for fixing it. I made sure to leave a five star review on the app store for the latest version. |

I am running this on an IPhone 5 with iOS 7.02.
When I have the app running in the background I get no warnings.
It works fine if it is the main running app.
Is this normal for the new version? |

Check under Settings, General, Background App Refresh is ON for Cameralert.
I had the same symptoms today and this was the cause. |

Thanks PaulB. I had background app refresh disabled for all apps.
Have now enabled it for camera alert and will road test today. _________________ -------------------------

Need to be careful with which apps to disabled it for. For example disable it for reminders and you get no reminders. My preference (now) is to leave refresh on and just kill off unused apps. |

"Background app refresh" is a misnomer really. It should be called "Allow apps to run in the background under certain, Apple-specified, situations". Grrrr

I get the distinct impression that Apple's randomly named / inconsistenly enforced / arbitary decisions are causing some stress for you guys at the moment.
Hope it all gets simplified for you - we love the app and the service

I am ready to give up on CamerAlert because I need to run it in the background and it is hopelessly unreliable.
I am currently using CoPilot, before that I was using Navigon, and occasionally I use Waze. In each case I had CamerAlert configured to start the navigation app, which I need to run in the foreground, obviously. Before I embark on a journey I start CamerAlert, which starts the navigation app. I set the navigation app for my destination and drive off. It often happens that I pass an speed camera and hear nothing from CA. I bring CA back into the foreground, tap it, fiddle with it and it seems to come alive and start displaying my speed. Sometimes it seems to do something like restarting itself because it brings the nav app back into the foreground. Anyway, I continue on my journey and CA seems to be working. Later, maybe an hour later, on the same journey, I pass a camera and nothing. I fiddle with CA again and bring it alive. Etc. Am I the only one with these experiences?
I'm using an iPhone 4S with the current version of iOS7 and the current version of CA.
To use the PGPSW camera database reliably I use an old Tomtom with the PGPSW database installed.
As an aside, I am finding the speed camera functionality of CoPilot to be pretty good. |

Have you read the posts above about the Background App Refresh setting?
If you have this switched off then the app will display behaviour simalar to that which you describe.
Check under Settings, General, Background App Refresh is ON for Cameralert.
Check this setting and report back. |

Thank you, Paul, for your reply. Yes, I've had read that thread, and Background App Refresh is set to ON for CamerAlert. I should have mentioned that. Another thing that bugs me is that when CA is working normally in the foreground it tracks me on a 2D map as it should. There are other times when the screen is constantly being repainted, starting with a map that includes much of Europe and Africa, with clusters of cameras on it, and then sort of zooming in, and then repainting again, and not becoming stable.
i might just re-install the app. I don't know why I didn't do that before. Maybe because it does work sometimes. I'm not going anywhere in the car for a day or two, but I'll report back.
Thank you for your suggestion.

I had something similar with the maps jumping around on my Android device (sorry) when I had the Advanced setting - 'Use network locations' set to ON. I guessed that because the network location is not as 'fine' as GPS, CA keeps jumping to the new location which may be 100s of yards away. It was also screwing up the average speed readings. I switched it off and have had no problems since. |

To me that sounds like your GPS signal is a bit hit and miss. Can you run our 'GPS Status' app (free in the appstore) and see what that feeds back?
