|
|
Mail on Sunday report below.
Apparently councils outside London are rushing, yes - rushing, to install Super Gatso at £17,000 a throw. This is in anticipation of a law change that will allow councils to issue fines for a wider number of offences. No right turn, no U turn, box junctions etc.
I have a feeling this may have already been posted on Forums before, sort of came back to me as I'm typing.
If it has, please can a Mod (or Rocker) delete it, don't want to repeat it all again.

So much for 'Call me Dave' saying that he was going to stop councils milking the motorist cash cow. I suppose he's under the influence of his tree hugging deputy. |

Detail about the installation of the cameras in Manchester from the Manchester Evening News.
"Current legislation only allows the cameras to be used to enforce bus lanes rules but town halls may soon be allowed to use the images to fine drivers for passing no-entry signs or making illegal U-turns and right turns. The Department of Transport is waiting results from trials in Nottingham and Sheffield to decide on whether to roll out the extra powers currently afforded to London councils." |

I'm surprised that various London councils were not the first to try them. They seem to be the first with most 'milk the motorist' scams. |

Seems London's Westminster Council was:
http://www.carsite.co.uk/news/article/new-supercameras-catch-50-times-more-motorists/15225
I quote from the article:
Quote: |
"Westminster Council has already tested the new system on two roads in central London. Documents from the council show that the ZenGrab system caught more than 1,000 offences in four weeks, compared to just 271 caught by conventional Gatso cameras in an entire year." |
The Link: Manchester Evening News, posted above also shows their locations in Manchester. _________________ Mick

That Westminster one was the subject of a TV program a few months back.
The camera was focussed on a box junction where it was easy to get caught out on the yellow crosses and then 'zap', fine in the post. _________________ DashCam:
