|
|
It's been mentioned numerous times in the newsletter and in the forums but with the imminent arrival of iOS7 we felt we needed to remind users about CamerAlert.
Due to the changes in iOS7 about how developers can 'recognise' a device, CamerAlert is NOT compatible. The app will run but you will not be able to update the database or submit any new cameras or corrections etc.
We are still working on CamerAlert 2 which will be a separate app for iOS7 and any future updates. This allows us to keep CamerAlert available for older devices like the iPhone 3G and 3GS who will not be getting iOS7.
So, if you wish to keep using CamerAlert as normal then we have to say not to upgrade to iOS7 straight away.
You *have* been warned! So don't come a-moaning if you go a-upgrading

Understood. Do you have an ETA for camera alert 2 and how it will work for members ?
Thanks |

No ETA at the moment.
In terms of "how it will work for members" I'm not entirely sure I understand what you mean.
The app will be free still, it will only run on iOS7 and newer. We are hoping that Apple will let us use auto-renewing in-app subscriptions - if they do then our main problem caused by iOS7 will be mostly overcome.
In terms of how the app will work from a user point of view will be the same. You log in to 'link' your account and you drive around and get beeped at :D
It will, however, look sexier!

That sounds great !! Can't wait !!!
I like free but as a lifetime member I'm also happy to pay a bit for the new app to support the development. Maybe an inapp donate button or something which I've seen a few others do (ISS Spotter for instance)
Thanks for continuing the great work.
Now if you could get the new app to auto update to the latest db in the background, well, that would just be MAGIC !!! (It seems every time I load the app there is a new db waiting for me which is a pain as I'm usually driving at that point) |

Sexy beeping? Ooooooo!
Anyway, mattelise, update when you get in the car - I do it each morning on my driveway, still attached to my home broadband it takes less time than feeding a destination into my satnav. _________________ Dennis

Thanks for the update MaFt, I hope you guys find soon the way to work with iOS7 - using GM here already and app updates have started to be pushed by apple. Look forward to that sexy new app

So iOS 7 is coming out next week, allegedly. So I mustn't upgrade to that and CamerAlert will continue to work? _________________ Dennis

Correct.
And your phone won't explode if you don't upgrade straight away. In fact, it will continue to work as normal.

A ray of sunshine, thank you. If only I had been told in advance about iOS 6, I'd still have working Google maps. _________________ Dennis

How viable would manual updates (in iTunes) be? Sure, it's not as neat; but I'd happily do that twice per week if needs be! |

Dear Lord, it's hard enough trying to explain how to force-quit an app. Never mind the extremely convoluted method Apple invented for transferring files via iTunes...!!!
(Read that as a 'no'!!)

Could it at least serve as a stop-gap for users who are keen to keep using until a solution is found? I'm sure a significant number of us are keen to use Cameralert with iOS 7 and are also happy with the iTunes arrangement? |

FYI, I have just updated from iOS 7 beta 6 to the GM version and I think there has been some database corruption. This could be because of the process of moving between iOS 7 versions, or could be an issue with iOS 7 and CamerAlert not playing nicely together.
So not only will CamerAlert not update after updating to iOS 7 on Wednesday night, but the existing database on the phone may be corrupted!

I have an iPhone 5 for home and an iPhone 4 for work. Looks like I can update to iOS7 for home and then will have to take my work iPhone with me everywhere to use Cameralert?
Does Cameralert work fine with iPhone 4? I recall some issues a few months ago? |
