I have one comment and one problem.
I cannot pair the device with my Iphone 5 but can pair easily with either of my iPads! My Iphone can "see" the Nuvi and the Nuvi give me a code which is seen by the Iphone but pairing fails each time. Any help would be appreciated.
BTW I have paired my Iphone with my car and other devices without any issues before. I have deleted these pairings just to see if that would work, but alas it does not.
After much searching without an obvious solution, I finally reverted to doing a re-install which resolved the problem! Not sure why or how, but it now works.
Still finally vexing problem, why are the Michelin Restaurants and Hotel not compatible with the 3598 yet they are compatible with the 3597? I sent a query to Garmin customer service but the silence is deafening.
Not sure why there is an issue with the POIs as the 3597 and 3598 are the same model apart from the digital traffic receiver and a few files which reside within the system directory to support the traffic but this shouldn't affect the POIs _________________ DriveLuxe 51 LMT D - Firmware 6.80

The initial Halfords stock of 3598-LMT-D were labelled 3597 on the serial number sticker and began with a 2 followed by two letters (WT) then numerics. The latest stock begins with 39 followed by a letter (Q) then numerics and is labelled 3598 on the back.
In both models, the unit showed 3598 when booting up and both my units came with a 4gb micro SD card.
The latest software (3.20 onwards) has an option to connect Bluetooth for Smartphone services but to use another source (or phone for calls) via a new tickbox option. I.e. phone calls can route via an in-car speaker or headset rather than the Nuvi.
As others have commented, Garmin Express (and webupdater) seem to want to update the Language Text to version 1.40 every time (Garmin Express is worse as in the advanced settings it wants you to install 6 or so files you already have on your Nuvi). _________________ DriveLuxe 51 LMT D - Firmware 6.80

Hi all,
I've just had my second 3598 due to the same problem(?) of a bit of speaker hiss, both from the inbuilt one and the mounting unit. Could you please confirm if yours (or the 3597?) does it?
Its fully updated and did it before the update to 3.30.
Is yours a 3597 model but sold as a 3598 (by Halfords) with a 2WT serial number (on the box/back of unit) or a "true" 3598 with a serial number beginning 39Q0..... as this is the later version? _________________ DriveLuxe 51 LMT D - Firmware 6.80

Its a 3598 from Halfords with serial number beginning 39Q0xxxxxx.
It seems to be functionally fine but has a hiss when your ear is quite close to the speaker(s). Both the first and this unit also made slight 'electronic noises', again quiet though, when starting up.
Are yours completely and utterly silent then, even when your ear is close to the built in speaker?
Hi. Thanks for getting back. It's just a general hiss all the time. Some people would probably only hear it with their ears right up to the speaker unit. Of course, it's absolutely inaudible when in the car
If you have the digital traffic enabled with the cable AND you also have traffic enabled on a smartphone using the Garmin Smartlink application, the 3598 gets very upset indeed. It flicks between both traffic connections over and over (which don't have the same information), and then eventually causes the 3598 to crash/reboot.
Garmin are looking into this.
The problem is you cannot switch off this functionality on the app once it has been purchased. I actually want the smartlink primarily for the speed cameras but you cannot choose which bits of functionality you want.
You may want both traffic connection types when you are travelling to places where there is no DAB coverage, or in parts of Europe etc.
There was something in a recent firmware update about Smartphone links and traffic compatibility as well as something on adding a new function to just use the Smartphone for Smartlink rather than phone via the sat nav.
Will be interesting to see what Garmin come back with. _________________ DriveLuxe 51 LMT D - Firmware 6.80

I reported a fairly major bug to Garmin today.

i have not seen this behaivour and I have both enabled. Lets see what Garmin say.
I did get a reply back from Garmin about the Michelin guide and have told me that the 3598 is now compatible with the guides but unfortunately its not been updated on the website yet
So maybe looking at getting one of these, what the customisation like, I know when I had my TT 540 use could add your own Poi including your own icons which could be dragged and dropped through windows, but as models have got newer there seemed to be less access.
Also with the 3D car icon are you able to create your own vehicles ? Cheers
I can't really comment on the customisation options but I've had mine to replace a TT Live 1005. The main improvements for me compared to the TT are the lifetime maps and traffic and the responsiveness of everything on the unit. The TT was so slow. What is a downside for me is the massive chunky power/traffic cable that has to be plugged in to use the traffic.
You can add as many POIs as you wish for display on the screen - you can select these by enabling layers on your route and add an icon in the Where To screen so that Personal or Favourite icons can be easily selected.
You can add cars as well but have to copy these to the Nuvi's internal drive. The easiest way is the Garmin Garage (Garmin's own site) which will give you an idea of what there is or alternatively go to www.vehiclesforgarminnuvi.com and you will be 100s there. _________________ DriveLuxe 51 LMT D - Firmware 6.80
