I think you will find that the British Standard Thumbnail has recently been replaced by the EU Standard Thumbnail. It is slightly thinner due to the change from imperial to metric measurements, and consequently doesn't do the job quite as well.

My 940 dropped to the bottom of the list after the car wrapping the aux belt around the crankshaft ripping out the oil seal on the M23 ( less than half the recommended replacement mileage  )and then coming home a couple of days later to a 25c fridge in the heatwave!
Firing it up tonight the network screen has all the numbers back! leaving it on the network screen I noticed that it was showing connecting, connected and occasionally Battery Too Low.
I am aware that the battery life has been decreasing but up to now has not been a problem as it is always in the cradle but Mr T. may well be right and it is time for a new battery.
As an aside now the satnav is running completely off of a card and nothing on the internal drive it is far more responsive to use and when connected to home than it was. Suspect that the internal drive has been suspect for a while although a fresh install may be helping.

I'm still interested to hear from anyone who is SURE they get better Live reception with a new battery, when the unit is always externally powered.

Mine is almost always powered when it's in the car, and I can't say I've noticed the Live connection dropping out. The battery was pretty tatered, maybe 30 minutes use tops. As of Friday I have one of those nice new ones from Amazon fitted though.

Just to finish I have now replaced the battery which I purchased from Amazon.
Battery fine but not impressed with seller as it said free tool kit but nothing sent with the battery and when I queried it I was sent just a couple of screwdrivers. Feedback will not be good.
Anyway the important point is that the 940 is now as good as new and although I have only been able to use it on local trips so far I am convinced that Live is connecting quicker and remaining connected far better than before.
The car symbol which constantly reverted to the standard arrow is now remaining on the selected alternative. Whether this is related to putting the program onto a card or the replacing the battery I'm not sure but its all good.

About 18 months ago I had the battery in the 530 replaced, and I always use it connected to power. I remember that I felt the performance had improved, though after this time I'm not sure of the specifics. I think it was faster route planning and the map keeping up with the navigation. I'd definitely recommend having a resonably well functioning battery.

Less than a month and the new battery will not maintain its charge. The TomTom red/green charging indicator seems to choose random colours unrelated to the state of charge. It shows green and as soon as it is out of the cradle it turns off due to low battery.
I am returning the battery for replacement via Amazon marketplace. I have to pay the postage which I thought the supplier was meant to for faulty goods in the 30 day period?
The battery was labelled Cameron-Sino CS-TM940SL, has anyone else found these replacement batteries unreliable? The first one was DoA.
Fortunately I kept the old original failing battery which will keep the unit going in a fashion with a charger attached until I get a replacement.

I've had two new batteries, both were very hard to get going. Neither would initially charge from the computer or the mains charger. I could only get them to charge using the car charger. Then I got a 3amp mains charger with another piece of equipment and decided to try it on the new batteries, they both began to charge from that. After a number of charges from that, they began to take a charge from the old mains chargers.

In that case this 3.1A (2.1A + 1A O/P's) USB mains charger on offer at Maplins at the moment, may be useful.
