This review says TT has put a 3G SIM card in the 6000 - I'll keep looking for further info. _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]

I would be very suspect about the comment saying the 6000 could be used anywhere in North America.
With the Nav 3 devices, US LIVE models use AT&T while the LIVE model in Canada uses Rogers. The two telecos do NOT get along.
And I don't see any changes to that in the future..... _________________ David |

I currently work for a comms company and we are currently installing 4G for Vodafone and are at the moment they are retaining all three technologies 2G/3G/4G
There is a lot of vehicle tracking that is still heavily reliant on 2G so it looks like its still going to be around for a while as its still big in fleet management and other Telemetry services. |

I think it's 99% safe to assume it is a 2G/GPRS modem in the GO5000/6000 _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

That's what I was told at the launch.

I am thinking off buying a TomTom Go 6000 and find this discussion interesting.
I will contact TomTom for an answer on what sim they put in
Will let you know the answer
On another subject does anyone know if we can still add the PGPS World speed camera's to this unit?
Thanks |

I doubt if TT Support will know what SIM is in it!
The new range will not accept any custom POI file sets but they are promising a future update to allow this. A bit like they promised a lot of other things... _________________ Device: GO 600, Live connected via iPhone 5.

Received the following reply
Dear Mr. Burns,
Thank you very much for your interest in TomTom and our newest product. I would herewith like to confirm that the TomTom 6000 works with a 2G sim card which should be more then enough to transfer the data needed for HDT traffic.
I hope this anwsers your question.
Please let me know should you have any further questions.
Thank you.
With kind regards,
Executive Assistant, TomTom |

Didn't all this 2G stopping idea come about as a poster in another thread quoted someone from AT&T talking about running down 2G in some areas?
Whatever AT&T do with 2G will not affect anyone in Europe, unless of course they travel to the States. I am not aware of anyone in the UK running down 2G services and I am in part of the supply chain to UK mobile operators.
My 3 contract does not allow tethering and I would either have to pay extra for this, change to the One plan for £10pm more or use my company phone if I wanted to use tethering. My other big concern is data roaming charges when in Europe which would be free with the 6000 model. _________________ Drivelux |

http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/382948/ofcom-relaxes-rules-on-4g-spectrum-use
Quote: | "The decision allows mobile operators to increase mobile broadband speeds in future by reusing their 2G and 3G spectrum for 4G... |
If that doesn't mean someone is reducing 2G services in the UK, I don't know what does.
That said, TomTom use Vodaphone don't they, so this is relevant:
Quote: | Vodafone, which is set to launch its 4G service towards the end of the summer, said the decision had "no bearing" on its upcoming launch. The operator only has a small chunk of 1,800MHz spectrum, and said it didn't have the available kit to run 4G on its existing 900MHz or 2,100MHz spectrum. |
