I have transferred a gpi file of European Harley dealers to my new Zumo350, and, correctly, they now show as POIs. I do not get alerts however when I get near a dealer. I did not use POI loader and merely copy and pasted the file into the POI file on the Zumo. Should I have downloaded a different type of file and used POI loader ? Any advice would be appreciated.

Presumably the GPI doesn't have alerts set. I'd suggest downloading the POIs in Garmin CSV format and using POI loader to create your own GPI.

POI loader lets you set a speed or proximity alert. The easiest way to get a proximity alert is to rename the files to end in _redlight, for example if the file is called harley.csv call it harley_redlight.csv and likewise for the BMP. POI loader, with the "express" setting, will set a proximity of 400 metres or 1/4 mile.

You can also load the file "as is" with POI loader and use the manual settings - this also lets you set a different distance.

Thanks for the advice. I think I have already tried this and it ended up with only 50 or so Harley dealers on the Zumo. The loader converted the csv file into a gpi file and placed it in a POI file on the Zumo along with various 'sample' European speed cam databases. As to whether I would have got alerts, I am not sure but there weren't any bitmaps. Copying the gpi file into the same folder, I ended up with all the European dealers i.e 200 odd, but no alerts. Could I use some sort of POI editor to put alerts on and also add/delete/amend dealers as you can with the spreadsheet csv files. I'm getting a bit confused as no doubt you can tell !!!!

Hi,

I think your satnav might be similar to the nuvi in that it only returns the nearest 50, using some logic that seems to depend on distance as well as the number of possible POIs. The way to test this, would be to set your satnav to simulation mode, set a distant location, and see if the same 50 are returned.

As for the bitmap you could always download the PGPSW list (of 4 dealers) and use their bitmap along with your own CSV file. And perhaps suggest to Harley Davidson to donate their database to PGPSW ? Smile

With the CSV files the format is fairly straightforward, the main difficulty is getting the latitude and longitude in decimal format. One method I've used, was to use Google Maps and create a push pin; this will show the lat and long in whatever format you've configured it.
