Have discussed how to get CA to exit automatically when leaving the car. Consensus was to have something like Llama or Tasker disable GPS for at least 10 mins so CA would time out. However disabling GPS doesn't work from Llama since Android 2.3 due to changes in Android (there's no API for it). And my Nexus 4 seems to have a VERY good GPS which refuses to 'let go' unless I crawl in a cellar :-P
Any plans or possibility of a Locale/Tasker plugin (would work with the free Llama too) so aspects of CA could be controlled by a user-created 'event' as an 'action'?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kebab.Llama
The ability to close/exit CA would be the critical function. I can then have a one Llama (or Tasker) event for doing everything needed when leaving the car (exit CA, stop music playing, change phone volume profile, disable Bluetooth etc.)

What is it that tells Llama you got into the car in the first and presumably switched all those things on. Would NFC Tags work? _________________ Galaxy Note 4 / TomTom GO : CamerAlert : CoPilot |

A trigger can be a mix of 'conditions'. Say some combo of
- Pressing a shortcut on the screen
- Connecting to my car's Bluetooth (by being in range)
- Being in an unknown area (defined by a range of cell masts not visible)
- Charger plugged in
- Disconnected from any WiFi
- And yes, NFC tag detected
etc |

Any Android application can send out broadcasts. So if Llama would send out a broadcast "All Apps using GPS please exit" then we could honour that request and exit CamerAlert.
Question is - who should approach the Llama developers? _________________ Lutz

I can ask. Nice chap. But I'm no programmer. Is there a parameter in the 'broadcast' that triggers "All Apps using GPS please exit"? |

it's possible to add "extras" but is not required. The broadcast itself is sufficient. _________________ Lutz

I'm told Llama let's you craft Android Intents, such as broadcasts and basically, you can make Llama send anything to any app, as long as the app understands what it is.
For now I've found and am playing with setting Car Mode to achieve this... |

indeed. We're actually already honouring these broadcasts
android.intent.action.DOCK_EVENT (with the extras EXTRA_DOCK_STATE_CAR and EXTRA_DOCK_STATE_UNDOCKED)
android.app.action.ENTER_CAR_MODE
android.app.action.EXIT_CAR_MODE
and you can enable either in the Advanced Settings screen. _________________ Lutz

Noticed a problem with CA today, I drove along the M3 from the M25 junction to Sunbury and it continually reported a 50mph speed warning but there are no 50mph restrictions on this stretch of the M3, these start the other side of the M25 junction heading away from Sunbury. |

You don't need a reliable source. On iOS and android it is free to download, complete with access to get the very latest database free of charge.
Do that and you can test the application as much as you wish _________________ Dennis

@steavemichaels.
I assume thet you are talking about CamerAlert the phone app
It is a stand alone app that does not integrate with a nav app
You can run it in the background behind your nav app and it pops up alerts over the top of them.
It has arguably the best came=ra data available (at least for GB)
You can display your position on its maps, but not use it for guidance.
If you display the maps, it costs you data to download map tiles on the fly. But if you run it in the background or use it without showing the maps the only data it uses is the initial download and the weekly updates.
It is directional and does not alert for cams on the 'other side of the road' thus reducing false alarms.
Read all about it here |

Anyone know if/when we will get (an option?) to have CamerAlert automatically update its database? In the UK at least I (and I suspect others) have generousness enough data allowances that such a feature would add value to the app. |

It's something that's on the cards but at the moment our priority is to get around the iOS7 issues we've now been given...

Now iOS7 is dealt with....! I just want to avoid that very annoying (and loud-voiced) woman reminding me I haven't got the most up to date DB. I normally switch CA on as I walk to the car so "the Voice" kicks in in a very public place so everyone can witness my shame! Conversely how about a pop-up reminder instead of the Voice?! |
