I think it would be best if anybody interested actually went out and bought one of the new models quick.
The next (after these) new models will lack availablity of the functionality "Navigate to" in the initially released products to improve the twitter and facebook experience.
Anyway, it now seems that future new TT models will have very little functionality in the initially released products.
Oh for my trusty old GO700 - new initial releases have not been the same since! Can you imagine somebody whose GO700 has just at long last failed, goes out and buys one of these incredible new large touchscreen models? Then goes and jumps off the nearest high bridge! _________________ Dennis

So they've dropped hands-free calling; I wonder why. Maybe I'm just being cynical but it could be that on my 740 it worked well, on my 550 it regularly crashed and now on my 1005 it very rarely works and when it does, apparently I sound like a Dalek at the other end. I'm guessing they've messed it up so completely on the new models and rather than fix it, they've dropped it altogether, to concentrate on the navigation experience! |

They had the navigation experience absolutely spot on at least 8 years ago to my personal knowledge - I bought a GO300 and never used my several hundred pounds worth of A-Zs again after the first day's trial. I wonder how many thousands of miles I've done following them trustingly? Must be half a million.
Still, when you lot all have the new Twitter and Facebook TomToms, I'll be able to go back to my A-Zs which I still haven't put in the recycling bin. _________________ Dennis

That is quite incredible!! It's just a list of reasons not to buy a new Tomtom.
How can they not have the ability to add your own POIs?? It's surely an essential for most satnav users? |

I agree, it's quite staggering to see such important features omitted, but then, that's business - get the products out as quick as possible to bring the revenue in ASAP. Then, fix or add whatever you can if the demand warrants it later.
A TomTom employee told me that for those people with GPS units already, it would be wise to wait 6 months for both the price to come down AND for new features to be added with later updates. _________________ (Older kit: TomTom Go Original, 910, 940 Live, 1005 Live and Snooper S4 Neo. Now you know why the new model numbers are the same as the first units.
The new go 500 same features as the old 500 so you can't get confused. |

So the new models look good but the lack of features from launch has put me off them and who knows when they will be included
As a long time TT user I'm in the market to update my XL live next month (live and map update run out). Am I best investing in a 1005 ? lifetime maps and 3 years live make it good value at the moment. |

Precisely my own dilemma. I have a new van on order which comes with built in satnav, a Renault own-brand multimedia thingy which includes TomTom satnav. It looks the absolute bees knees, or as close as I might expect. Trouble is, it's not working properly yet and is the cause of the current 8 months+ delivery delays on Renaults fitted with it, so until it arrives I won't know whether it has knees or just a peg leg! I have in recent years, always run at least two TomToms in the van, simply because only one doesn't satisfy me - I get different performance and results from the two I run at present, allowing me to make my own judgements about routes and Traffic warnings. I have a gut feeling I may want to run another with my new system too and free maps and traffic are appealing. _________________ Dennis

Just noticed the Live services on the new models no longer include speed cameras - not that this forum will be worried! Also there are two subscriptions for cameras, a 'basic' one and a 'premium' one. _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]

Here's link for 6000. On the left hand side there are options for speed cameras or premium speed cameras.
Edit: This is the difference: railway crossings, average speed checks, mobile camera hotspots and accident black spots. Well worth the extra fiver . _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]
