Hi,
I have a Gemini Devices GEM10313BK tablet running on Android 4.1.1, it does not have a built in GPS but I have paired it with a Nokia LD-3W receiver. I have downloaded NavFree for Android but when I run the program it says “your gps is turned off”. Does anyone know how I can get the tablet to work with the gps receiver? It seems to acknowledge that it is “paired” when I look in "bluetooth devices" but NavFree can't seem to access it.
Any thoughts or advice will be very welcome.
TIA.
John.

I suspect you need to run a Mock GPS provider app such as:

Hi Kam,
Thank you very much for your suggestion. I admit that I am not very computer literate but I did follow the link and download the program. When this program prompted me to “select the paired gps device and connect” unfortunately it only showed H5038B, I am not sure what this is but it isn't my Nokia gps unit, (this is Nokia LD-3W and is shown as “paired” if I go into settings – Bluetooth and paired devices. The H5038B is also showing and when I check this in profile it said “Use for input”).
It seems strange that the Nokia gps is shown in paired devices but neither the NavFree program or the Bluetooth gps program can find it! I know the Nokia receiver works well with my old Nokia E61 phone but maybe it wont work with other makes of equipment.
Anyway, thanks again for your suggestion, I think it is great how folks like yourself take the time to help us less knowledgeable people.
Kind regards,
John.

John,

The H5038B is the bluetooth keyboard that may be used with a GEM10313BK.

Have you tried resetting the BT connection? Power off the LD-3W and the tablet, then power them on again, the LD-3W first, followed by the tablet.

Hope it works. I'm out of ideas now.

Hi Kam,
Thanks again for your suggestions. I tried powering down and then powering up again and voila, I was able to connect the Nokia in the Bluetooth GPS program. To be honest, I am not quite sure what this program should do but it has certainly connected to the Nokia GPS receiver.
However, when I opened the NavFree program it said “GPS in your devise is disabled – Enable GPS?” When I clicked YES it opened “Location services” – and showed “Google's location service” also “Location and Google search”, both these were ticked. I did try un-ticking and re-ticking but this made no difference. There were no other options under Location services.
I was wondering if I should try to un-install NavFree and then re-install it.
I quite understand if you are “NavFree-ed out!”.
Regards,
John.

Until quite recently many versions of Android did not directly allow mapping apps to use an external GPS receiver. The Bluetooth GPS app connects to an external GPS receiver and then makes it appear to your Android device as though you have an internal GPS receiver. Have you followed this instruction in the BT App: "**** Please first enable Allow Mock Locations in Setting ****"?

Kam,
Thank you so much. You are a hero, that has done the job!!!
I did try to do this earlier but the command was "greyed out" and when I tried to allow developer options, I was warned against it so did not proceed.
Thank you for taking the time and trouble to help - it is really appreciated.
What a fantastic list this is.
Regards,
John.
