A friend of mine wants to buy a Nexus 7 and he has asked me to recommend some mapping software that he can put on it to use when he is on holiday
in Europe.
He is looking mainly for free software as the nexus 7 will not be used for navigation but as a help for general use.
I would always suggest people try OsmAnd (or OsmAnd+ for a few pounds), but there are plenty of others available for free.

It's based on OpenStreetMaps (as is OsmAnd) which are constantly up-to-date and free, you just need to find the navigation app that feels right for you.
You'll see from my sig that I also use Waze, this has Navigation (a bit vague at times), free traffic (accurate) and free Police mobiles/controls but you shall need a 3G connection for this which is not so good for international travel.
I have tried most of the other free and trial apps on Android and have dismissed them for one reason or another until I've whittled them down to those in my sig and I use them according to whether I'm driving a new route, a familiar route or a complicated, long route . For me, one size doesn't fit all. _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599
