|
|
i'm getting continually frustrated at the lack of speed using my tomtom reciever. (silver diamond shaped one)
it seems to take forever to pick up signals.
i've decided to ditch it & get something that picks up signals straight away.
it seems to be ok until i input a new postcode using the postcode program from digitools then it takes ages to pick up a signal again.
so what reciever do you recommend?
many thanks |

The receiver has nothing at all to do with the postcode program.
The TomTom receiver (Leadtek 9531) is actually a very good receiver. Maybe you have a tinted windscreen or a XM satellite radio or other items that can disturb reception? _________________ Lutz

I have and use the TT gps receiver the same as yours, never get any problems, even in my garage i get 6 sats reception,as Lutz says its a Leadtek 9531 in disguise for TT, mine takes about 30 seconds on start up to aquire fix, maybe you have a faulty one . _________________ Iphone x 64gb IOS 11.3.1 / IPhone 6 Plus 32gb IOS 12 beta /Volkswagen Scirocco R 280 bhp /Suzuki Vitara swb vvt+ /Suzuki Jimny special/running Apple Mac Mini / Apple air/ iPhone x /6 plus navigation / Apple car-play |

If the kit is less than 12 months old I would take it back to the retailer and ask for a replacement under the warranty.
You have not stated what PDA you use so suggesting suitable receivers is difficult. _________________ Ian.

i have said what pda i'm using on my 2nd post on this thread.
its a dell axim 5.
the way i have it set up is like this
the connections aren't quite like it but the holder is.
i have a leadtek reciever in there at the moment with what i call a modem type fitting. its not a ps2 or usb fitting.
to be honest, i've not seen any recievers for sale with the same fitting i have? |

Sorry!
It's been a long day... 12 hour shifts.
As stated above, the Leadtek is a very capable receiver and has achieved a 100% rating on this site.
Take a look at the reviews here for some alternatives.
Do you know anyone locally with sat nav? Maybe you could try the Leadtek on their kit.
I would seriously consider returning it under warranty if it is still covered. _________________ Ian.

no probs, get a good nights rest mate.
ok, maybe there could be a problem. dont know for sure.
last question on this then.
i'm happy with the mount i use as its more stable than anything else i've used or seen.
therefore, if i buy another reciever, where could i get one that has that small square plastic (modem type) connection to fit into the mount which is powered by the cigarette holder? |

You could try PC-Mobile
They have a wealth of specialist cables etc... so may have a solution.
I hope everything gets sorted one way or another _________________ Ian.
